A green ogre, a hilarious donkey, and a beautiful princess come to life in our downtown starting this Saturday. The Fort Wayne Civic Theatre will present Shrek The Musical at the Arts United Center where you can be reunited with your favorite on-screen cartoon characters on stage.

Did you love Shrek while growing up or do you have kids that love Shrek so much they’ve worn out all of your DVD players? Based on the 2001 film by DreamWorks Animation and the 1990 book by William Steig, Shrek The Musical is fun for the young and the young at heart with its entertaining plot and invigorating musical pieces that’s sure to leave you ready for more theatre.

If you don’t know what the story of Shrek is all about, here’s a summary from the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre.

In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a feisty princess.  Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a villain with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero.  Shrek The Musical is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!

If you haven’t taken in a show by the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre, you should come out and see what this exciting part of the Fort Wayne arts community has to offer.

So…did you know that all of the actors you’ll see on stage are volunteers? Fort Wayne Civic Theatre says most of these talented actors rehearse for a main stage musical like Shrek for eight weeks, all while working full time jobs, attending school, or raising families. Also during this time, behind-the-scenes folks from the Civic technical and costume staff work hard to ensure that all of set, lights, and costumes are just right for your enjoyment.

Tickets are available now for all nine Shrek The Musical performances by visiting the ArtsTix Community Box Office website. Here’s a list of this month’s shows.
