A Whole New League – Dodgeball Anyone?

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”  – Patches O’Houlihan, Dodgeball

It’s hard not to envision Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn when you think of dodgeball. But when was the last time YOU played? Fort Wayne Sport and Social Club is new in town, and they want to put the ball in your hands. Dodgeball has come to Fort Wayne.

FWSSC Logo - JPEGLet me start by introducing you to the newest adult intramural sports league program to join our city. Fort Wayne Sport and Social club is for professionals 21 and over and serves as a social outlet for those interested in casual, fun intramural sports. All leagues are co-ed and the goal is to bring people together in teams for friendly competition followed by knock-out drink and food specials and good fun at local participating bars. Some of us at Living Fort Wayne had a chance to meet the man behind the club, Chris Collett. He has the same fun and outgoing personality that is present in his leagues, and his mission is simple. Bring people together, have fun and be an active part of the community.

“Our players get treated like rockstars,” Chris says. “The social portion is the primary goal. Sports brings people together to work as a team.”

So how does this work? It’s easy, those interested sign up and they are placed on a team. It’s not just dodgeball that’s offered, although that is the first league to kickoff here in Fort Wayne. On their website, you’ll see that there are other leagues like kickball, flag football and more. A league is $60 for a seven week season. As a league member, you receive a team t-shirt and have access to all of the food and drink specials on nights after the games. Teams gather once a week for their game, and all head out afterward for food, beverages and a chance to unwind.

You can join by yourself or recruit friends to register as well. “People can sign up by themselves and it’s not weird,” we laughed as Chris put it plainly. But, the point was made. People make friends here. And they have a great time doing it.  And, while it’s easy to join solo, Chris admits that their success has grown exponentially through simply word of mouth. So tell your friends!

On January 10th Fort Wayne Sport and Social Club will be holding a FREE TO PLAY dodgeball tourney at the Ash Center beginning at 3pm. After that, the teams will head to O’Reilly’s for more fun, food and drinks. You do not have to pay to play at this event. This is an opportunity for you and your friends to see for yourselves what this social club is about. There will be a contest for individuals to win a free league membership. The more people you refer, the more chances you have to win. But, you must attend this event to be eligible. Sign up here for the January 10th kickoff dodgeball tournament.
