Fort Wayne Adventure Games: The Adventure Begins August 1
I’m always on the lookout to try something new, especially when it comes to exploring the city and a little physical challenge, so when I saw a Facebook pop-up for Fort Wayne Adventure Games, I knew this would be an event that I wouldn’t want to miss! Fort Wayne Adventure Games on August 1 is shaping up to be another can’t miss event for anyone looking for a one of a kind activity to do on a summer Saturday morning!
So what are the Fort Wayne Adventure Games, you ask? They’re an “exciting city-wide competition where teams of two get to experience Fort Wayne like never before.” The premise is this: your two-person team bikes throughout the city to several surprise locations that are only revealed just prior to the race. The checkpoints highlight some fabulous Fort Wayne locations and include some sort of mental or physical challenge that must be completed before moving on to the next checkpoint. There are three divisions for the games: Fun, Open, and Elite (see FW Adventure games website for age requirements go to: http://fwadventuregames.com/race-info).
Fort Wayne Adventure Games begin bright and early on Saturday, August 1, 2015, with the Elite division starting at 7:55 a.m. at Headwaters Park West (that’s where the race wraps up, too). In order to participate, each member must have a bicycle and helmet, along with some other gear that only adds to the allure of what the challenges may entail.
Fort Wayne Adventure Games is one of the signature events by Sport Wayne, a non profit 501(c)(3) organization founded last year whose mission is “to help promote healthy lives, dynamic communities, and economic vitality.” They “wanted to create a unique homegrown competition that would be customized for Fort Wayne.” So they launched the Fort Wayne Adventure Games, “a city-wide adventure challenge that promotes our cities historical traditions and modern attractions.”
I got to speak with Corey Ford, the President of Sport Wayne, Inc and here’s what he had to say about the event:
“The majority of the planning has been done by staff and board members, but many of the venues and attractions around town who are hosting a checkpoint, have had full creative control of their challenge. They have all come up with some pretty clever mental and physical obstacles for teams to complete. There are also several other unique recreational organizations involved in running checkpoints, BUT we can’t give them away without giving away some of the surprises! We have been working on this event for over a year now, and we are glad it’s getting close!”
Sport Wayne believes that “a city’s quality of life and economic conditions can be directly tied to the quality of athletic opportunities for citizens of all ages, abilities and skill levels.” Fort Wayne Adventure Games is one of three of their signature programs designed to fulfill their mission.
