LFW Top Picks for Summer Runs and Walks

Summer has finally hit the Fort, which means it’s perfect outside for a run! That being said, Living Fort Wayne has assembled a list of runs and walks for this Summer season! What’s also perfect is how many runs and walks we have in Fort Wayne to participate in. Don’t miss out on these opportunities to not only better yourself, but help our community raise money for organizations.

Frontier Run’n Fun 5k


When: Saturday, June 18th

Where: 8001 West Jefferson Blvd. Fort Wayne, IN 46804

Time: 7 pm

Cost: $35

A run hosted by Frontier and managed by Fort Wayne Running Company, this event promises a good time running through Southwest Fort Wayne trails. Shirts will be handed out and an after party will be thrown with refreshments and live music. There will also be a 10k course for those who dare to do such a thing.


RibFest 5k & Walk


When: Saturday, June 18th

Where: Headwaters Park

Time: 8 am

Cost: $20 until June 14th, $25 until June 17th

Ribs and running? Sign me up! All participants will receive not only one but TWO FREE passes to this year’s RibFest, a free t-shirt, and other swag to take home after the race. All proceeds will go to the North Side High School Athletics!


Quakers Riverway 5k


When: Saturday, June 18th

Where: Johnny Appleseed Park

Time: 6:30 pm

Cost: $20 until June 17th, $25 day of race

Race for a cause! Awards and prizes will be handed out following the race. There’s even a FREE kids run at 7:30 pm! Also, Weigand Construction will be hosting their 28th Annual Duck Race to benefit SCAN following the run. Not to mention a legendary after party with kids activities and fireworks. All proceeds will go towards SCAN and their mission to educate others on how to Stop Child Abuse and Neglect.


Fox Island Sprint Triathlon

When: Sunday, June 19th

Where: Fox Island County Park

Time: 7 am

Cost: $50 for USAT members and $65 for non-USAT members

This is not for the faint of heart, folks. Triathlon includes a 500m swim, 20k bike, and 5k run with other options for duathlon and aquabike courses. Come trek these trails in this beautiful park and have fun winning the race!


The Glo Run


When: Friday, June 24th

Where: Allen County War Memorial Coliseum

Time: 9:35 pm

Cost: $29.99 for Early Bird (ends June 8th), Regular $60

Who doesn’t love the ’80s? If you do, join us at the Glo Run! Filled with neon lights and funky ’80s dance music, this is an event I will definitely be signing up for! You can also Glo for a Cause and help raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Fort Wayne!


4 on the Fourth

When: Monday, July 4th

Where: 7000 N River Rd. Fort Wayne, IN 46815

Time: 8 am

Cost: $25

Need to burn some calories before consuming all of those hot dogs and beer? This 4-mile run is right up your alley! Come decked out with your friends in your best Americana outfits! The race will be held just south of Kreager Park near the Rivergreenway.

Runners on Parade

When: Saturday, July 9th

Where: Headwaters Park

Time: 8 am

Cost: $30

Come run, walk, or jog with over 1,000 people at the 22nd Annual Runners on Parade! Prizes will be handed out at the end of the race. A portion of proceeds will go to Riley Children’s Hospital.


Insane Inflatable 5k


When: Saturday, August 6th

Where: The Plex North

Time: Waves start as early as 8:30 am, with the final wave at 11:30 am

Cost: Varies depending on time of registration. $57 until July 1st!

We all loved (and let’s face it—still do) bouncy houses when we were little. Now here’s your chance to enjoy inflatable madness as adults! This course is filled with wild inflatable obstacles to jump, bounce, and slide through. Reading reviews online people that don’t run had a blast with this event that they said it didn’t even feel like a 5k run. Teams are optional, but encouraged as you will have a better time. Even if this is the only run you do all Summer, don’t miss it!


Chasing Memories 5k

When: Saturday, August 20th 

Where: Park Place Senior Living

Time: 9 am

Cost: $25

This is a benefit run to aid the task of Alzheimer’s research, care, and support. Each participant will also have a chance to join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

Taste of the Arts: Beat Beethoven 4M Run/Walk


When: Saturday, August 27th

Where: Arts United Center

Time: 8:30 am

Cost: $25. Cost will increase August 1st

Each participant will have the chance to try to finish the race in time that it takes Beethoven to play his 5th Symphony. Awards will be given out to the top three male and female, top masters male and female, and individual age group winners. All proceeds will go towards Arts United.
