There are so many cool things going on downtown this summer! The Three River’s Festival is coming up, the farmer’s market is a great place to make purchases, and TinCaps baseball is in full swing. If you get a chance, try to make Lunch on the Square to one of your downtown destinations. You can grab a great lunch there every Thursday from 11:30AM-1:30PM now through August at Freimann Square. This should be a must for anyone who has a free day, or who works nearby and can allow time on their lunch breaks to eat. Unfortunately, I work too far away to personally check it out, so I reached out to a few locals to get their opinions on the event. Amber Ruiz, her husband, and their son attended the very first Thursday of the season. Daniel and TJ Musser (ages 9 and 12) try to make it out a couple times a year with their family. Let’s see what they have to say about the event!
What is your favorite thing to eat?
Daniel: The Snooooop Dog is my favorite thing at Bravas.
TJ: Bravas hot dogs because they are very good. I probably like the Snooooop Dog the best. (the Snooooop dog is a vienna beef frank, smoked bacon, smoked gouda, and aioli. You can have this on a burger, also!)
Amber: My family and I tried the Ragin’ Cajun Food Truck-it was completely delicious! We tried the tacos and jambalaya. No way you could go wrong!
What’s the crowd like?
Daniel: It depends on the day. If it’s all droopy and rainy there is not much but if it’s sunny and nice there’s a lot more.
TJ: It’s usually busy. There is a lot of people in line for the food trucks.
Amber: We went to lunch on the square the first day- Thursday, June 7th. There was a considerable amount of people coming and going, enjoying the lunch trucks and free music, entertainment, and visiting stations/centers of local Fort Wayne vendors.
Is there other entertainment there?
Daniel: There is music every week, but sometimes there are street performers there too.
TJ: There’s shops and people playing music. There are stands you can get sunglasses from. (Local radio stations and other agencies have giveaway booths at the Square also!)
Amber: The day my family and I went to Lunch on the Square, we were entertained by Alicia Pyle Quartet and a student From Covington Elementary- Addison Stout. Both put on a great performance, and allowed my family time to sit down and enjoy downtown Fort Wayne.
The Downtown Improvement District made Freimann Square THE place to be this summer for lunch. It definitely sounds like there are things to keep you entertained while eating- street performers, live music, and local giveaways to include a few.
