Fall is one of our favorite seasons here in the Fort. There are so many traditions we can count on year after year – Johnny Appleseed  and other area festivals, great times at local pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and corn mazes, and ever-growing events like Fright Night and the one we are so excited to discuss today: Fort4Fitness! Fort4Fitness is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote healthy living and fitness in and around Fort Wayne, Indiana. The organization’s “leaders and volunteers have come together to create a catalyst that educates, motivates, and inspires residents of Northeast Indiana to make healthy lifestyle choices and improve their level of fitness. Fort4Fitness does this by hosting signature fitness events created for people of all ages and athletic abilities, while also promoting the areas leading healthcare, wellness, and nutritional offerings. Fort4Fitness is truly committed to promoting year-round awareness of healthy living and fitness in Northeast Indiana.” – via Fort4Fitness.org If you found yourself in the midst of hundreds of cyclists downtown this past May, chances are, they were taking part in the Fort4Fitness Spring Cycle, pedaling in and around downtown for upwards of 43 miles! In the Fall, the organization hosts its even larger festival, which features an expo, half marathon,  10K run/walk, 4 mile run/walk, kids marathon, and a seniors marathon – plus, plenty of opportunities for volunteers. There is truly a place for everyone in Fort4Fitness’ Fall Festival. Since 2008, thousands of people, of all ages and fitness levels, have taken part in their events, which has, in turn, allowed residents in our area to kick-start a healthier lifestyle or further enhance and continue their goal of living well. Fort Wayne has so much to offer when it comes to getting on board with, and maintaining, wellness. With healthcare facilities, programs, and experts at organizations like Parkview, countless classes at several area YMCA locations, easy access to the city’s many trails and parks, and non-profits like Fort4Fitness making strides in the community, opportunities and support are all around us. Foodstock 2014: Third Annual Celebration of Fresh-Cooked Street Food Returns to One Summit Square on July 26

Every Thursday throughout the summer you drive along Wayne Street at noon – windows down, radio off – the sounds of a live band stream through One Summit Square and delight your ears, the aroma of freshly prepared food causing your mouth to water. You longingly gaze out of your passenger window as you pass one, two, three, and more food trucks, while a large amount of locals wait for chefs to call their name and pass meal orders from the window-on-wheels into their eagerly-awaiting hands. Kids laugh and dance, dogs look longingly on at their owners’ lunches, local vendors discuss their craft. And you drive on past, so as not to miss your weekly afternoon meeting across town, a single tear streams down your face. Whether this perfectly describes your state of being during the weekly Lunch on the Square events in downtown Fort Wayne or you’re lucky enough to attend every single one, we have some good news for you: Foodstock, this Saturday, July 26, will grant you the opportunity to enjoy all that Lunch on the Square has to offer and more, without having to run back to the office. Foodstock-goers can “expect more of everything” in comparison to Lunch on the Square, says John Maxwell, owner and head chef of Ragin’ Cajun Food Truck. “And nobody has to rush back to work.” Foodstock 2014 Saturday, July 26, 2014 11 AM – 8 PM One Summit Square Downtown Fort Wayne, IN The third annual Foodstock, which kicks off at 11 AM and runs through 8 PM, will feature five live bands, several local beer and wine selections at a beer garden presented by Deer Park Irish Pub, face painting and balloon art for the kiddos, and, let’s not forget, twelve of the area’s most loved food trucks. Maxwell, a native of New Orleans, always looks forward to seeing customers’ eyes light up and smiles grow as they sample food from his truck, which offers authentic, Southern-style Cajun cuisine. “I like bringing the food I grew up on to people who have never tried it, or never knew they liked it.” And it sounds like he, and his food truck cohorts, will witness plenty of those reactions this Saturday. “We had over 3,000 in attendance at Foodstock last year,” notes Maxwell, “and expect to see 4,000 this year.” The food trucks, “traveling in groups like we do, allows us to cater and cover everyone’s tastes” and with all of the combined food options, “creates a full, mobile restaurant menu,” says Maxwell. You can mix and match your food truck selections to create the ultimate mobile dining experience. Maxwell recommends trying...

Make Life More Fun: Think Local, Think Shindigz When Planning Your Next Party

Shindigz has been making waves in the party industry since 1999 as an online retailer, but their roots date back to 1926, in South Whitley, when they started as Stumps Party. Shindigz owner, Shep Moyle, and Social Media Coordinator, Kristen Baumert, give us an overview of the small, family-owned-business gone number-one-place for party supplies online, which continues to operate right in our own backyard. The History Once Stumps Party realized that they had become a leader in prom supplies, selling to over 70 percent of the nation’s high schools, the owners realized that they had gained the footing and support to branch out into the consumer party space. “We knew that we could bring our unique blend of personalization and unique party items, combined with great value, to a much larger market,” says Moyle. “Wendy [Moyle’s wife] came up with the name Shindigz, in an ideation session. We knew it was a winner from the start.” The Growth It was with a “relentless focus on [the] customer” that Shindigz grew from a small family business into one of the United States’ largest dealers in party supplies. “We believe in delighting our customers and bringing a smile to their face when they open a box from Shindigz. We create unique and interesting products that make life more fun. We offer the world’s largest selection of personalized party supplies and we support it all with world class technology and operations.” And that’s certainly something to smile – or rather, party – about! A Personal Touch Adding a name or photo to just about any party piece ensures that your celebration will be memorable in a totally unparalleled way. “A name or picture can be added, in most cases, to standees, tableware, banners, party favors, and so much more,” Baumert shares. “The look on your child’s face when they see their own picture and name on their birthday party supplies is priceless. We create these moments that will last you a lifetime.” Overwhelmed by the incredible variety offered on the website and not sure where to start? Fear not! Shindigz provides plenty of themed party ideas on their website in addition to instructional how-to videos on their YouTube channel. Hometown Loyalty What further sets Shindigz apart from other party suppliers is the fact that, even though they’ve gone ‘viral’ and ship party necessities to customers across the nation, they keep it local by remaining a huge advocate of supporting our communities right here in Northeast Indiana and investing in their people. “Over the past forty years of ownership by the Moyle family, Shindigz has been very active in the area. This ranges...
