LFW Spotlight: Rachelle Reinking

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne were? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city.  In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Next in our series is our Editor, Rachelle Reinking!   What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? – I’m the Editor and a contributing writer for Living Fort Wayne. I joined the LFW team because I love writing and, having lived in Fort Wayne my whole life, I wanted to help showcase the hidden gems our city has to offer.   Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc). – I’m a pole dancing, meathead yogi. In my down time, I lift weights and pole dance at Fort Wayne Aerial. I’m a yoga teacher (I earned my 200 Hour RYT this past year!) and teach aerial yoga, power, and all levels at Studio Seva.   If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why? – Either Salt Lake City, Utah or Dublin, Ireland. When I visited SLC, I couldn’t help but fall in love with the mountain scenery surrounding an urban city. Plus, the people had some Midwestern hospitality in them. I adored the culture in Dublin, and I am so intrigued by its rich history. Beautiful city in a beautiful country!   If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in FW? – Oh man, so many things! I would make a couple days out of exploring Downtown Fort Wayne. Awesome coffee shops, fantastic locally owned restaurants, my go-to shop Black Anvil Tattoo, drop-in pole fitness class at Fort Wayne Aerial, fun music scene and nightlife – that’s a solid weekend in my book.   If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? – Let it be known, I’m a singer by trade, and would probably sing multiple times well after you’re sick of seeing me go up on stage 😉 I love me some Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Lana Del Rey, but I’ll also willingly (read: shamelessly) sing anything from The Lion King soundtrack.   Stay tuned next month for another glimpse...

LFW Spotlight: Brittany King

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne were? Next in our series is our Communications Liaison, Brittany King! What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog?   I’m the Communication Liaison and currently help manage the events calendar and weekly Fun File. I volunteered for Living Fort Wayne because, being born and raised in the Fort, I love the city and I think it has many amazing things to offer that not enough people know about! I’m a writer so helping Living Fort Wayne promote a city I love through a medium I love is a perfect fit.   Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc).   I have the most wonderful 3-year-old daughter. Her name is Annabelle. She thinks she’s a dog most of the time, but that’s okay because I love dogs (I love animals, really). But really, she’s great. She’s a good excuse to go to the zoo almost daily in the summer, and to watch a ton of Clifford and Magic School Bus with no judgment. If we’re not at the zoo or watching some really great ‘90s cartoons, then we are probably reading books or at the theatre.   If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why?   I want to live everywhere. I can’t even realistically answer that question. I love travel and I love adventure and exploring other cultures.   If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t-miss thing you would show them or do with them in FW?   Uh, the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. Or honestly, for a more age-appropriate good time, I’d block out a couple days to just explore downtown. People don’t understand how wonderful it is and how many hidden gems we have, not to mention the already well-known things DTFW has to offer. … We’d do a lot of eating.   If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing?   I refuse to do karaoke. To be honest, I really only know the words to show tunes or some...

Living Fort Wayne Spotlight: Jasmine Bejar

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne were? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city.  In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Next in our series is our Partnership Development Co-chair, Jasmine Bejar. What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? I’m the Partnership Development Co-Chair for LFW. I started writing for Living Fort Wayne because I love the city and wanted to share that with everyone! Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc). I’m a writer (as I obviously just stated), but I recently picked up photography and am exploring that method of storytelling as my newest hobby. I’ve always loved taking pictures (and not just selfies). When I was young, I took my disposable camera with me everywhere, and as I got older my cell phone sufficed. But now I have a Canon Rebel t5i, so I’m excited to put some technical skill to my interest! (Shameless plug: follow my Instagram to watch me as I learn @jasminebejar) If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why? Somewhere in Spain. Rumor has it that my last name descends from Spain, and I think that the culture would be an amazing experience. If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in FW? This is the hardest question for me! It would probably be a TinCaps game. I love baseball, and our ball park is so much fun. Plus, then I would have 9 innings to tell them about all of the other things that there are to do in Fort Wayne. 😉 If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? I don’t karaoke! But, if this were some alternative universe where I were brave enough, I’d probably go all out and sing anything (or everything) Taylor Swift. Stay tuned next month for another glimpse into one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers. If you’d like to learn more about opportunities to help out with our blog, send us an email (info@livingfortwayne.com) or reach out to us on Social Media: @LivingFortWayne facebook.com/LivingFortWayne We’re always interested in meeting...

Living Fort Wayne Spotlight: Tim Zink

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne were? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city.  In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Next in our series is our committee co-chair, Tim Zink. What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? I started off just writing for Living Fort Wayne before becoming co-chair. I have always enjoyed the opportunities to talk to people I wouldn’t otherwise get a chance to talk to and to go to places I wouldn’t otherwise get to go to. I’m sure the people who end up talking to me feel the same about having the opportunity to talk with me. Right? (Please say “yes”). Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc.) I don’t have a life outside LFW – that was one of the requirements – just kidding. But seriously – one of the hobbies I have (but don’t do as much I used to) is just going out with my camera and getting photos around downtown or the old industrial areas. Those areas have a ton of character and have a story to tell. If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why? Grand Rapids, Michigan – I like cities about the size of Fort Wayne, plus I also like the Great Lakes. Even though it’s not on Lake Michigan, it’s pretty darn close. The only other option for being next a large body of water without moving is manipulating the waterways to reform ancient Lake Maumee, which used to be next to Fort Wayne. I have a feeling people would frown on that, though. If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in FW? This might seem boring to some since it’s not really social (hey, looking at trees is kind of my thing). I grew up around Cedar Creek just north of Fort Wayne – one area I love a lot is around the Devil’s Hollow area. The way the land looks in that area is unlike any other part of this area. If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song...

LFW Spotlight: Susan Tsai

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne were? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city.  In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Next in our series is our Editorial chair, Susan Tsai. What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? I am currently the Editorial Chair for LFW. However, I initially joined LFW as a copy editor because I used to copy edit for the Indiana Daily Student when I attended IU, and wanted to get back into it!   Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc). Outside of LFW, you’ll find me working at Lincoln Financial Group or Club Soda. Needless to say, I don’t have much time for anything else, but I like coloring books, music and watching movies, and anything else that allows me to relax.   If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why? NYC! I love the hustle and bustle of the big city with a never-ending list of things to do. And the food! There are some things you can’t find anywhere else except NYC…like soup dumplings from Chinatown.   If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in FW? Downtown Fort Wayne. Can I categorize that as one thing? But if I had to narrow it down, it would probably be a baseball game at the TinCaps stadium, or a Saturday morning at the farmer’s market.   If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? I’ve never done karaoke, and probably never will because I never know the words to any songs! So… I would probably be singing something by Andrea Bocelli or Josh Groban in my living room. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Spotlight with another one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers. If you’d like to learn more about opportunities to help out with our blog, send us an email at info@livingfortwayne.com or reach out to us on Twitter and Facebook. We’re always interested in meeting with other folks who are passionate about sharing all that’s great about living, working and playing right here in Fort...
