Races/Marathons for Summer 2013

I moved back to Fort Wayne just before Thanksgiving of last year to an apartment on the North side of town. And nearly everyday I drive past the Parkview Family YMCA off of Dupont Road and its scenic walking trail that encircles a pond, playground, field, and Solomon Farm Park within its 1.68 mile circumference. In the months following my return I saw the dedicated few bear through the bitter winter season to emblaze the trail in all its tempting treasures. I admired them from afar as I nuzzled my rear into the seat warmers of my car and sipped on a hot cup of Joe wishing I had the guts to slip off the insulated boots and strap on the cross-trainers, but ultimately knowing…I didn’t. Then, two weeks ago the sun came out, the thermometer hit 70, and the YMCA trail was bustling with roller bladers, dog walkers, runners, and stroller pushers. Like in the Wizard of Oz after Dorothy lands in Munchkin Land and all the munchkins emerge from their nooks and crannies to explore the new world void of the Wicked Witch. Fort Wayne is abuzz with spring fever and ready to stretch its legs. If you too share in this urge to get your heart pumping in the sunshine then let’s make the most of our hot season! We’ve been waiting all winter so let’s not let this beautiful Indiana summer pass us by before the leaves start to change again.
