Summer Outdoor Adventures of Northeast Indiana

Northeast Indiana has no shortage of outdoor activities. From Fort Wayne’s three rivers, 86 parks and hundreds of miles of bike paths, there’s plenty to explore. Keep reading for our favorite outdoor adventures in and around Fort Wayne. Visit a State Park Northeast Indiana’s State Parks are the best places to go for hiking, observing wildlife, camping and more! Pokagen Located near Angola, Pokagen is one of Indiana’s original state parks.  With activities for every season, the park is a hot spot all year long. This summer head to Pokagen to enjoy its scenic hiking trails, boat rentals, fishing, horse riding and beautiful sunset views. Chain O’ Lakes Nine connecting lakes make up this state park. With 10 miles of hiking trails, plentiful beaches, the one-room schoolhouse nature center and cabins for rustic overnights, there’s plenty to keep the whole family busy all weekend. Ouabache Easier said than it looks, this park’s name is the French spelling of a Native American word and is simply pronounced “Wabash.” Head here to enjoy the park’s interpretative naturalist services, hiking trails, swimming beaches and paved bike paths. Other Parks While not designated as state parks, there are plenty of natural areas nearby to get your outdoor fix.  Check out Allen County Parks with more info about Fox Island and Matea Park  which offer great activities for the kiddos. Salomon Farm Park is an historic working farm and park for everyone. Roush Lake Fish and Wildlife Area is designated for hunting and fishing opportunities. Head to the Water There are numerous lakes and rivers surrounding Fort Wayne offering cottage rentals for a weekend (or longer) getaway. There’s no better place to de-stress than near the water. Lake Life Lake Wawasee is Indiana’s largest natural lake, with rumors that Oprah has purchased lakeside property there, and Al Capone used to be a regular visitor. Salamonie Lake has tons of activities to enjoy besides swimming and boating including biking and bridle trails, playgrounds, sports courts and waterskiing. Dating Your City With Amber Stone: Table For One

I figured this month’s adventure would be topical because of what some people would feel is a dreadful holiday: Valentine’s Day. The reason I chose to write about this topic is that Fort Wayne, like I’ve said in past articles, has amazing restaurants. That in itself is how you get to know your city. From figuring out who the owners are, what their food visions might be, to the ones that come highly recommended. A few weeks ago, I took myself out on a date. I know you are probably thinking, “going out alone in public?? On a Thursday night to dinner?? Who would do such a thing?!” You won’t believe how many people were shocked that I took myself out. One friend even said, “Some people might think you’re lonely.” I think quite the opposite. It shows I’m confident enough to enjoy an evening alone, and be happy doing so. If you can’t spend time alone with yourself, nobody else can. Relocating to a new city, and being single, can be difficult. If you’re the opposite, it might be a bit more challenging. Either way, take yourself out once in a while! That evening I decided to dine at Asakusa, which has quickly become my favorite sushi restaurant in the city. That place will put you in a sushi coma! Whatever style or taste bud it is that evening, you’ll have plenty to choose from around the city. Living in a new adventure can be lonely at times. I guarantee there’s always someone close by wanting to hear your story, of why you changed up your life. People who live here, are extremely friendly. Try a new restaurant, meet a stranger at the bar and say hello, or get to know you better and go on a solo date with yourself. It’s not that scary, just focus on how good that meal tastes! I challenge you…pick a restaurant…and go ahead…say those three scary words….”table for one”…it won’t be so bad.  Meanwhile, I would love to pick your brain on new places. If you think of a great restaurant I should find, visit my page at facebook.com/AmberStoneRadio, and inbox me....

Room To Escape

To be honest we had no clue what to expect from Room to Escape. We had played the virtual game app on our phone but never thought of the concept of having a hands on activity. So after a little research we decided to gather a few friends and take a crack at what would turn out to be a very eventful evening.        As soon as you pull into the parking lot it’s hard to imagine how the rooms would look or what we would be doing. When you first walk into the waiting room you see a few games on a table and a television. We are then greeted by the owners, who answered all our questions we had before we started. So we check in and watch a video about our challenge and the rules for the game. Sixty minutes is all you have and it goes fast! We can’t give away much more and trust me you don’t want us to. Experience the anticipation and excitement of finding the clues and accomplishing the task yourself. We got a chance to talk to the owners of Room to Escape again after we were out. We asked how long they planned on having this real life adventure run. Good news is that Escape the Room is here to stay. There were talks about adding an additional room making it three total adventure rooms. So how many people can actually participate in this group activity? We had a total of four individuals which was perfect, however, you can have as many as six. This is a great activity for a small group of friends or even as a team building activity for co-workers, which will definitely put your patience and communication skills to the test. Afterwards, our group met to talk about the experience. You never really know someone until you are put into a room having to work together to win a challenge. There was a definite leader and competitor, Angie, and some goofballs, Tera. The game was full of funny moments, a lot of duh moments, and in the end we escaped the room. Check them out on Facebook or their website at...
