The City of Church Conventions

With Fort Wayne’s well-known status as the ‘City of Churches’, many religious events take place in the Summit City.  Washington Times named Fort Wayne the ‘City of Church Conventions’. A Few Major Fall Events: 1.  August 14 – 15 will be the Global Leadership Summit hosted at the Embassy Theatre brought to you by Blackhawk Ministries. The Global Leadership Summit attracts many Christian leaders focusing on Christ-centered leadership.  This event is experienced by over 170,000 leaders throughout the world representing 14,000 churches and translated in 45 languages. “WCA’s passion is to help leaders worldwide—men and women—realize God’s vision for their lives, churches and communities. We share ideas and build partnerships. Through The Global Leadership  Summit (TGLS), Partners, and WCA Membership we deliver vision and inspiration to resourced regions; and we bring training and opportunity to under-resourced areas.” 2.  Enjoying Union with God Weekend is September 26th – 28th and is free of charge. Speakers are:  Ordained ministers Andre and Mary-Ann Rabe, teacher and leader Steve Hill and founder of the Fire House Projects, Matt Spinks.  ‘There is a revelation of God’s pure and unconditional Grace that is being revealed once again to humanity!  We want to invite you to a weekend of immersion and experience of this Grace, found in Jesus Christ!’ 3.  On September 13, 2014 the City of Churches will be the site for Beth Moor’s ‘Living Proof Live’ presented by the largest Christian supplier of books and resources, LifeWay. Beth Moore is an author and teacher.  She lives in Houston, Texas where she leads her adult bible study and attends church where her son-in-law serves as the Pastor.  She believed early on that God was calling her to lead.  With her story-telling ability, she has written many books, Bible studies and devotionals. During this non-denominational event, Beth Moore will focus on women living and loving Christian lives.  Travis Cotrell, musician and song-writer, will lead the worship service during the event on September 13 from 9:30am – 4:15pm at the War Memorial Coliseum. 4.  The Salvation Army Ministry will be hosting its 6th annual charity ball and auction titled ‘Return to Neverland Charity’ on October 4, 2014. To help local families in need, The Salvation Army Ministry is hosting this event at its location on 2901 N. Clinton at 7pm.  They are now accepting donations and event sponsorships.   Also, swag bags will be given to the first 50 people who purchase tickets.   With fall almost here, school starting, holidays approaching, and then the long dreary winter months shortly thereafter, being spiritually renewed can be quite a benefit. Be sure to take advantage of one of these great...

Missions in the City of Churches

Being the ‘city of churches’ comes with many opportunities to serve.  Whatever the age, wherever you go, there are always people in need.  Missionary work is one way to serve, and I am lucky enough to sponsor my 14 year old daughter in her mission trip to Costa Rica.  She gives a preview of what will be happening while she is there.        “I am excited to be going to Costa Rica.      “The main reason I decided to go was to start my mission to change lives all over the world. When I decided to go, my mom and dad were really supportive of my decision. They are proud to see me go and change lives in the name of the Lord. I am a little nervous to go, but I know that God will be with me the whole time and make sure I am okay.            What I will be doing in Costa Rica is helping kids in three orphanages, working on construction, hosting a VBS, and so much more.  One of the main things I am really looking forward to is handling the babies and smaller children. When we work on VBS, we will be putting on two dramas, hosting games, crafts, and hosting the lessons.” I am very proud of her and can’t wait to hear her stories.  Stories of not only how she changed the lives of others, but how her life is forever changed.  (I will be sure to keep you posted in my next blog.) There are so many ways to serve others and no matter what your religion, service is important.  During the summer months, be sure to check with your church and/or temple to find out how you can serve others. Or maybe just help a neighbor who is not able to mow their lawn and let me know your...
