Appleseed Con is Coming to the Grand Wayne in May

I was introduced to comics at a very young age by a person who would continue to be my best friend through most of my younger years. I remember the giant military trunk at the end of his bed. It was painted dark green and stenciled with black lettering. I remember my wonder when he opened the trunk and I saw the treasure trove of plastic-sleeved comics lying inside. The first time he showed them to me I got lost in countless stories and stylized art, and for many visits to come I would get lost in many more. While I never did much comic collecting myself (comic cards were more my speed), I did have my own fair share of books stowed away. I held on to the books that were my favorites and traded the others away for new and exciting stories. To this day I still have a box of books and cards which, as I’m writing this, I find the desire to pull them out and sift through them. Inside that box I would find a full set of those awkwardly over-sized Spawn cards,  some Marvel comics where Gambit got a lot of panel time, several card sheets full of comic cards I’d collected over time, and probably one or two old editions of Wizard magazine. “Appleseed is a great opportunity to reach out to kids and help them get invested in comics and reading. In that regard, every effort is made to work with local schools and libraries to promote the show.” -Appleseedcon.com Today I actively read two to three books at a time, and I can look back and thank my exposure to comics for my complete love of reading.  This is why I fully support Appleseed Con. Even if I’m not an avid comic collector, or even a regular comic book reader, I fully appreciate the art that these creators produce, and the awe that it inspires in children and adults all over the world. “Appleseed Comic Con was founded with a singular purpose in mind: celebrate comics and the comics community.” – Appleseedcon.com Appleseed Con is great for first-time interests or seasoned collectors. The convention will feature several comic creators, side by side with retailers and vendors selling comics and comic collectibles. Come experience the thriving comic community here in Fort Wayne.
