Happy Fourth! Looking for fun things to do in Fort Wayne? Look no further! LFW compiles a list of ongoings and events that we’re excited about every week! This is by no means an exhaustive list, and if you don’t quite see what you’re looking for, check out our events calendar. If you’d like to see your event featured in the Weekly Fun File, or added to our events calendar, let us know! Click on the event for more information about times, locations, cost, etc. 1. TinCaps Thirsty Thursday Pub Run Thursday, June 30 Walk or run a 5k through downtown, ending at the Tincaps Stadium for Thirsty Thursday! (Or, if you can’t join the pub run, just go to the Tincaps game for Thirsty Thursday.) 2. Freedom on Main: An All American Celebration Thursday, June 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Freedom-inspired fun! There will be face painting, activities, and a performance by Heartland Sings (also Joseph Decuis barbecue … yum!). 3. HAIR In Concert Friday, July 1 at 8 p.m. It’s a free performance of numbers from the upcoming production of “Hair,” you don’t want to miss it! 4. Leo-Cedarville Freedom Festival Saturday, July 2 at 7 p.m. Food, activities, music from Mason-Dixon Line, and fireworks! 5. Broadway Street Stroll Sunday, July 3 at 1 p.m. Broadway is the place to be! The street stroll will showcase art, shops, venues, and eats that have made a home on Broadway. 6. Fort Wayne Philharmonic: Patriotic Pops Sunday, July 3 at 8:30 p.m. The Phil is holding their annual “Patriotic Pops” on Parkview Field this Sunday. Stop by for some great music and fireworks! 7. 4 on the 4th Monday, July 4 at 8 a.m. Before you spend the rest of your day  cooking out and snacking during fireworks, start out with a run! 8. Fourth of July Fireworks Monday, July 4 at 10 p.m. The fireworks are downtown again this year! There’s a Tincaps game with a great view of the fireworks after, or you can head downtown and find a spot to watch the show! 9. YLNI Living Fort Wayne Concert Series Wednesday, July 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Our free concert series is happening again this coming Wednesday! Click the link and get involved! 2. Dine for Dance Thursday, May 19, All day               Eat at participating location and a portion of the proceeds will go to help fun two amazing dance organizations in Fort Wayne! Great food, great cause! 3. YLNI May Hot Spot Thursday, May 19 at 5:30 p.m.             This month’s hot spot is at Mad Anthoy’s … stop by, make some friend, have some food! 4. Pedal 4 Paws Friday, May 20 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.               All proceeds of the night go to benefit H.O.P.E. for Animals. 99.5 will be there to MC. There will be corn hole. There will be pedal car rides. There will be $1 veggie burgers. I love everything about this night. 5. Jefferson Pointe Free Concert Series Friday, May 20 at 7 p.m.               Before You Exit and OFERLE will be performing in the free summer concert series at Jefferson Pointe! 6. Great American Clean Up Fort Wayne Saturday, May 21, All day                 Hey! Our city is great! Come out and help us clean it up! 7. Sweet Aviation Spring Open House Saturday, May 21 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.             Bounce house. Slide. Breakfast. $20 airplane rides. So fun. 8. Girls on the Run 5K Saturday, May 21 at 2 p.m.                 Girls on the Run is an amazing organization helping middle school girls. They’ve been training for this 5K, have you? A Mascot Dash, “Happy Hair,” photo booth, and face painting will begin at 12:30 pm. 9. Soul 35 at Club Soda Saturday, May 21 from 9 p.m. to 12 midnight         Soul 35 is great. Club Soda is great. Music, martinis, food. 10. Walk MS  Saturday, May 21 at 8:00 a.m.             Walk for a great cause!...

YLNI’s My City Summit 2015 to Connect and Celebrate Fort Wayne Community  

If you are a fan of Fort Wayne and looking for like-minded people to take this town to the next level, YLNI’s My City Summit 2015 is a must-attend event for you. Designed to “Cultivate Innovation, Community, Connection,” this year’s expanded four-day event will create a city experience like no other.   Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI), a volunteer organization committed to enriching the Fort Wayne community, created My City Summit in 2012. The event was created to strengthen local community attachment for young college graduates. Both in 2012 and 2014, this collaborative event has drawn over 200 young professionals and community leaders to celebrate the city and share ideas on how to make Fort Wayne a more vibrant and attractive place to live and work. This year, the Summit will have a longer program and many new social events to rejuvenate and inspire you.   “Young talent and emerging leaders are critical to the future of Fort Wayne. These inspired individuals are the future of our economy and the cornerstone of cultural development that will continue to shape Fort Wayne as an attractive place to live and work for all generations,” said Heidi Colone, Chair of YLNI’s My City Summit. “YLNI’s My City Summit is a chance for our community to come together; to talk, share, collaborate, invigorate and be inspired. This is a chance to get involved and be a part of defining this city that we love and call home.”   The Summit will kick off on Wednesday, July 29, with the My City Summit Concert highlighting the local talent of Fort Wayne’s Funk Orchestra and Trichotomous Hippopotamus. The concert is a free event and will be accompanied by food and beverage vendors, including Affine, Sol Kitchen and Whip & Chill food trucks. The concert will also be next to Registration, where you can pick up your four-day Summit pass, event guide and registration gifts. A limited number of VIP ticket holders will have access to extra social events, so don’t miss your chance to buy tickets now!   On Thursday, July 30, you can choose from a number of educational sessions taking place around Fort Wayne’s downtown Arts Campus that suit your interests. This is your moment to share ideas on how to make Fort Wayne a more attractive place to recruit and retain talent. Music, the River, and a Wednesday Night | The LFW Concert Series

Have you ever seen the little helicopter that hangs out in Headwaters Park West during downtown Fort Wayne festivals and offers rides? Did you know that the landing pad is actually an amphitheater? It’s OK, most people didn’t know either, but the folks over at Living Fort Wayne did, and they did something about it. The Living Fort Wayne Concert Series will kick off Wednesday, June 4 at 5 pm at the riverfront amphitheater in Headwaters Park West. All that racket about riverfront development in Fort Wayne is becoming something real with this event. Kick off the summer while celebrating local talent and enjoying our waterfront. What’s that you say? You’ll be hungry at 5pm and need to be late for the sake of dinner? Living Fort Wayne has you covered. There will be plenty of food and drink vendors to choose from, including a beer garden from JK O’Donnell’s and enough food trucks to keep you well fed. Bring your kids, bring your friends, bring your coworkers, all Living Fort Wayne Concert Series shows will be free and family friendly (don’t forget to bring something to sit on!). They’ll also be bike friendly! Take the trails to the show or if you’re feeling adventurous, stop by Fort Wayne Outfitters to rent a kayak and paddle down! Fort Wayne Outfitters will be offering discounts on bike and kayak rentals during the evening of the Living Fort Wayne shows. Here at Living Fort Wayne we are excited for the next ‘Down the Line’ at the Embassy. Saturday February 22nd see some of Fort Wayne’s great local artists performing music by some of the best of rock-n-roll. The following provided by The Embassy: The Embassy Theatre’s Down the Line: Legends from Locals, presented by Hoosier Park Racing & Casino, continues the tradition as a one-night music tribute to five legends of rock-n-roll to benefit the Embassy Theatre. This year, bagpipes will take to the stage to play some AC/DC, the Grande Page Organ will be playing some David Bowie and there will be a memorial tribute to artist Lou Reed who died in October of last year. Tickets for this all-ages show on Feb. 22 are $12 in advance and $15 the week of the show. A limited number of early entry tickets are also available for $20. Tickets are on sale now at the Embassy Theatre box office, all other Ticketmaster locations and Ticketmaster.com. Experience David Bowie as performed by the Hope Arthur Orchestra.
