The following was provided by SCAN: On Thursday, August 7th SCAN will host the first ever Cheese & Quackers event in celebration of the agency’s 40th Birthday. Why Cheese & Quackers?  Well, ducks love cheese and SCAN is the premier organizer of duck races! And, what duck doesn’t love cheese! It just makes sense! This event is $35 – your ticket price includes: Samplings of a variety of cheesy products from area restaurants, including: Chappells Catablu For Goodness Cakes Granite City Food and Brewery Parkview Health Tucano’s Brazilian Grill Main Street Bar & Martini Lounge Salsa Grille Swissland Cheese Company Mad Anthony Brewing Company Shigs in Pit Applebee’s Pizza Hut of Fort Wayne Hopwood Cellars Winery AND… 2 drink tickets! You’ll need something to wash down all that cheese! Performance by the band, MP Cheese! They’ll be singing all your favorites from the 80s, 90s and today, including the birthday song – this is a 40th birthday party! The showing of the very sharp, very funny, but a little cheesy – The Princess Bride! All the proceeds raised from this event will support SCAN’s mission to prevent child abuse and neglect. Cinema Center and the Embassy Theatre have partnered for “Dudefest” featuring a screening of The Big Lebowski on May 30.  Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the movie will start at 7:30 p.m. The Big Lebowski movie was released in 1998 starring Jeff Bridges and John Goodman.  It has developed into a cult classic, with many Lebowski Festivals held across the country.   According to Jonah Crismore, executive director of the Cinema Center, it is their most requested movie. Two years ago the Cinema Center showed the movie at Indiana Tech to a capacity crowd.  This time Cinema Center wanted to allow even more people to attend and approached the Embassy about showing the movie and hosting Dudefest. “We have been looking to partner with Cinema Center and this was the perfect opportunity,” says Kelly Updike, executive director of the Embassy.  “As an added bonus, the event is a fundraiser for both Cinema Center and the Embassy.” Dudefest will start at 5 p.m. with the Bravas Food truck offering it’s menu and the Embassy bars will be featuring white russians. Crazy Pinz is placing a bowling alley inside the Embassy for the evening and giving away a Suite Party Package valued at $500. There will also be a costume contest, trivia contest and a chance to win an official Big Lebowski rug. Pop-Up Art Events in May Sponsored by ARCH

Architecture and Community Heritage (ARCH) Fort Wayne will be hosting pop-up art events every Friday evening in May in their historic Canton Laundry Buildings on Broadway. The events coincide with National Preservation Month, which gives communities and organizations a month-long opportunity to showcase their communities’ efforts to save historic places year round. The Canton Laundry Buildings were acquired by ARCH in 2011 are 19th century and Italianate style. ARCH purchased the buildings to save them from demolition and they are currently on the market for purchase after ARCH stabilized them. The buildings are located at 1014-1016 Broadway in Fort Wayne. If you are interested in checking out these historic places, there will be five evening pop-ups each Friday in May from 4-7 pm. The first Friday event will be May 2nd and will be the location for ARCH’s annual ‘ARCHies’ award ceremony that recognizes local individuals and organizations that promote historic preservation in Fort Wayne and greater Allen County. In addition, there will be a photography exhibit from the Indiana Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (DHPA) and the release of ARCH’s 2014 Endangered List.
