LFW Member Spotlight – Leslie Snare

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne are? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city. In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Today we are spotlighting Living Fort Wayne’s director-at-large, Leslie Snare! What is your role with Living Fort Wayne and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? I am currently serving as the director-at-large for Living Fort Wayne, which means that I’m basically the liaison between Living Fort Wayne and Young Leaders Northeast Indiana (YLNI). I oversee the strategic direction of our website and social media presence. Tell us one thing about your life outside of Living Fort Wayne Besides LFW, you’ll probably find me running the trails or in a local race. I’ve got two goals for 2017—to qualify as an Ironrunner with the Fort Wayne Running Club and to complete my first full marathon at Fort4Fitness this fall. If you could live any other place in the world, besides Fort Wayne, where would you live and why? Oh, I’m definitely heading to southern California…I love the laid back vibes of San Diego, plus the mountains, the oceans, and the year round warm weather would keep my running shoes perpetually laced up! If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in Fort Wayne? That’s a tough one, but I’d have to say I’d definitely take someone to Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown. Visit Fort Wayne hosts this annual event where a lot of the downtown museums and attractions offer free admission, so it’s a great opportunity to check out the best of downtown, like the Botanical Gardens, the Embassy Theatre, and the historic Allen County Courthouse. If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? I’ve never done karaoke, and have terrible stage fright, so it’s definitely not high on my priority list. That being said, you can often catch me singing along to Kings of Leon or car dancing to any number of hip hop or EDM songs. Don’t judge. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Spotlight with another one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers. If you’d like to learn more about opportunities to help out with our blog, send us an email at info@livingfortwayne.com...

Fort4Fitness Fall Festival

Ah, Fall. The time of year every runner in Northeast Indiana looks forward to. No longer do I have to come back from my long runs looking like a melted claymation version of myself due to the notorious Midwestern summer humidity. Well, fall running season is upon us and with it comes one of my favorite Fort Wayne races, the 8th annual Fort4Fitness Fall Festival! This year the Fort4Fitness Fall Festival is at Parkview Field, September 25-26, 2015. What is Fort4Fitness, you ask? It’s a 2-day event featuring a half-marathon, 10k, 4 mile run/walk and a kids or seniors marathon. Also unique to the Festival are the double play and Triple Crown multi-race options available for those overachievers who run 2 or 3 of the Saturday races. For the young and young at heart, Fort4Fitness offers kids and seniors’ marathons. The Kids Marathon is designed for munchkins between the ages of 4 and 14 to promote wellness and healthy lifestyle choices. The Kids Marathon training programs are designed to make exercise fun and achievable for kids. To celebrate the achievements of our young runners, Fort4Fitness will host a 1.2 “Final Mile” at Parkview Field at the festival where each finisher will receive a race bib and medal! Senior Challenge is a summer-long program that is design to motivate seniors to live a healthy lifestyle and is part of the new Fort4Fitness F4F365 initiative. The Seniors Marathon is open to anyone 50 years and older, and is an incremental walking/running program. The goal for both the kid and senior marathons are to have the runners log the miles they walk or jog throughout the summer to reach a marathon distance of 26.2 miles, or more! They’ve also updated the race times this year to promote a more enjoyable experience for all of the participants: The 2015 Race Start Times are as follows: 10K: 7:30 a.m. Half Marathon: 8:30 a.m. 4 Mile: 10:30 a.m. The festival kicks off with the Expo at Parkview Field on Friday, September 25,2015 from noon to 8 p.m. (Racers can pick up their race packets on Friday from noon to 9 p.m.). The expo continues through 1 p.m. on Saturday. Registration links are below if you’re interested in running one or all of the races. Hope to see you all there!
