City Game Stores Celebrate International TableTop Day 2014

If you listen carefully on Saturday morning, you may hear the sounds of laughter and dice-rolling as many of Fort Wayne’s game stores celebrate the second annual International TableTop Day! A Day to Play More Games! International TableTop Day launched last year through Wil Wheaton’s popular TableTop YouTube series. The day’s goal is simple: Bring people all over the world together to have fun and play modern tabletop board games and card games. Last year’s very first International TableTop Day inspired players to gather at more than 3,000 events in 64 countries. (Yes, that’s a lot of gaming!) Events happened in game stores here in Fort Wayne, in every state and province of North America, and on every continent across the globe. Rumor has it that even some researchers in Antarctica got into the act, making International TableTop Day truly a worldwide event! Where to Play Here in Fort Wayne, several local game stores organized special events, tournaments, game demonstrations, and promotional giveaways in honor of International TableTop Day’s sheer awesome fun. The events are all free, so grab a friend or meet some new ones across the gaming table this Saturday at the second annual International TableTop Day! Clem’s (4240 West Jefferson Boulevard) Bring your friends for open board gaming with their large game library from 1-9pm. Organized game demos begin at 5 p.m. for Forbidden Island, Munchkin, La Boca, and many more! Attendees can pick up promos and prizes throughout the day. Hope you’re lucky! Deck Factory Gaming Center (4526 Parnell Avenue) Game demonstrations and open gaming start on Saturday at 11am. Game Annex (4705 Illinois Road) The day starts with family game demonstrations from 10-11:30am, but that just builds up steam for the Ticket to Ride tournament at noon — where everyone who plays gets a prize! Game demos start up again from 1-5pm, with a Speed Gaming Tournament launching at 7pm. They’ll have giveaways and raffle items all day, too! Gamequest (3619 North Clinton Street) Learn a new game at one of the demos running throughout the day. Prefer to play something you already know? There’s open gaming all day as well. Hang around for the door prizes and cool promotional items, too!  Power Nine (1010 West Coliseum Blvd, Suite B) Open gaming from noon to midnight, with game demonstrations all day! If you learn a new game at one of their demonstration sessions, you earn tickets for the 9pm raffle drawing. They’ll also have Tabletop episodes playing through the day. All ages are...

Fort Wayne Caters to the Tabletop Gamer

Being a self-proclaimed nerd, I’ve dabbled in a wide range of tabletop games from my high school days of pen and paper Dungeons and Dragons, to my latest stint back into Magic: The Gathering.  Most recently I picked up a game called Android: Netrunner from The Game Annex. Netrunner is a Living Card Game created by one of my favorite gaming companies, Fantasy Flight Games. I’ve been spending my last few Sunday’s at GameQuest on Clinton learning and playing it, and I am hooked. In the years I’ve lived in this city I’ve discovered that no matter what side of Fort Wayne you live on there seems to be a local game shop nearby. Whether your into Eurogames like Settlers of Catan, Wargames like Warhammer 40k, or Collectible Card Games like Magic: The Gathering, Fort Wayne offers a wide range of venues for each and every gamer. For my fellow gamer nerds, and non-gamer friends I have yet to corrupt, I’ve compiled a list of local game shops and conventions in and around Fort Wayne. I hope to see you there. Game-on!
