Jukebox Ice Cream Parlor Open on East State

If you are looking for great hand-dipped ice cream, visit Jukebox Ice Cream Parlor. Take my word for it, and go- it’s worth waiting through the construction on the State/Clinton area! The parlor is in between Art Werks Bike Shop and Hall’s Prime Rib on East State, across the road from Parkview Hospital. Jukebox makes their vegan- yes VEGAN- ice cream on-site, and the hand-dipped ice cream comes from Ashby’s, in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. The menu is easy to navigate, clearly priced, and the staff is welcoming, friendly, and every other positive word you can think of. Sample flavors like Peppermint Oreo, Indiana Pothole, and the classic Superman before trying them, and get a cup, cone, or have them put your scoop in a cup of coffee! Vegan flavors include chocolate chunk, cashew bourbon vanilla, and chocolate peanut butter. The sugar cookie flavor ALMOST tastes like a certain local and VERY popular cookie company’s frosted sugar cookies- and that’s coming from an employee with a long tenure with the business. Shake and malt choices are available too! Make sure to take some time out of your day to sit on their patio, or hang out inside listening to the restored digital jukebox. Get a selfie with the life-sized Elvis carboard cutout, and step back in time to the 1950’s! If you don’t have time to stay, swing by and grab a pint (or a quart for larger cravings) to...

Just Cream: Ice Cream Boutique – One Sweet Boutique!

Just Cream: Ice Cream Boutique – One Sweet Boutique!

With amazing locally owned boutiques popping up all over Fort Wayne in the past few years, recent Purdue grad Lauren Landstoffer had a brilliant idea…an ice cream boutique! Imagine all natural, velvety ice cream made from the highest quality ingredients and merge it with delectable, freshly brewed craft coffee and you have the newest thing to hit Fort Wayne’s food scene – Just Cream: Ice Cream Boutique!   Lauren envisioned a warm, welcoming place that people would consider a hangout spot. She is a huge coffee addict, likes the vibe that coffee shops have, and wanted to emulate that in her space. “I love that people can come in and hang out and do their work. Come stay awhile!” And come they will, to enjoy the unique boutique menu of items that Just Cream has cultivated.   Lauren, like many Purdue alums, is a huge fan of The Silver Dipper, which serves premium hand scooped ice cream that is highly addicting. She knew that was the ice cream she wanted for her boutique. The ice cream itself comes from a locally owned and operated business in Wisconsin called The Chocolate Shoppe. It’s known for its super premium ice cream made with all natural ingredients and fresh Wisconsin cream.   The drip coffee they will serve is sourced by Intelligentsia, who is known for its third-wave coffee where they buy the beans directly from small, sustainable growers, do their own roasting, and have a slight obsession with quality control. This makes for some of the most delicious tasting coffee and that quality is what Lauren loved when she had her first sip at Olivia Macaron.   In Just Cream, Lauren wanted to create a place that had memorable food experiences. One of her fond memories as a kid was at the local Atz ice cream shop. “We used to get these amazing clown ice creams. I mean it was superman ice cream with all kinds of toppings in it, in the shape of a clown. It was magical. That’s what I want to create. Something people will remember.”   Just Cream will have a number of creative items that are sure to be just as memorable. One of their signature items will be an Extreme Shake, which is “the fanciest, over the top ice cream shake you have ever seen!” It’s a frothy shake served in a mason jar with “super fancy” toppings like candy, cereal, wafers, and of course sprinkles on top. There will be a selection of regular flavors and then an extreme shake of the month.   The menu item I am most excited about is the Boutique...

Throw a Pi(e) in the Face of Cancer!

Locally owned Sweets So Geek and Young Professionals for the American Cancer Society (YPACS) will be hosting a charity art show to help fund cancer research and the Live Bold fund created by the Fort Wayne Small Business Owner’s Association in honor of local entrepreneur Lindsey Hively and other business owners who have left us too soon. On March 12th, the Saturday before Pi Day, Sweets So Geek will be displaying and auctioning pie pans that were passed out to area artists (including the Komets and the Mad Ants) with the instructions to “make art.” This art will both be a celebration of local creativity, a quirky fun celebration of Pi Day, and once sold, will benefit two great causes. An auction will also be held for the right to throw a whipped cream pie in the face of local celebrities! The target will be able to bid against everyone there to avoid taking the pie in the kisser! The show begins at 6:00 pm, and all art will be sold via silent auction ending at 9:00 pm. All proceeds will go directly to the American Cancer Society and the Live Bold fund. The entire community is invited to come out, bid on one of a kind art, and enjoy a fun and unique event. If unable to make it to the event, donations can be made directly to the American Cancer Society through the Relay For Life of Fort Wayne under the YPACS team. Sweets So Geek will also have Pi Day contests, awarding the customer who can recite Pi to the farthest decimal with a full pie and their name engraved in a trophy pie pan, to be displayed permanently at the store. There will also be music entertainment from School of Rock, a cash bar by CS3’s, live art being created, Pi(e) themed desserts, and more! Visit the Facebook event for updates! About Sweets So Geek Sweets So Geek started as a hobby for former pastry chef Chad Seewald and blossomed into a profession. Making a few Star Wars chocolates for friends and family, the hobby moved into an Etsy store, then into a commercial kitchen, and now into a full retail location specializing in custom one-of-a kind cakes, ice cream, gourmet desserts, chocolates, and more that you just can’t find anywhere else. About Young Professionals for the American Cancer Society (YPACS) YPACS is a community-based voluntary organization comprised of young adults dedicated to the American Cancer Society in its mission to eliminate cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.
