LFW Spotlight: Brittany King

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne were? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city.  In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Next in our series is our Communications Liaison, Brittany King! What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog?   I’m the Communication Liaison and currently help manage the events calendar and weekly Fun File. I volunteered for Living Fort Wayne because, being born and raised in the Fort, I love the city and I think it has many amazing things to offer that not enough people know about! I’m a writer so helping Living Fort Wayne promote a city I love through a medium I love is a perfect fit.   Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc).   I have the most wonderful 3-year-old daughter. Her name is Annabelle. She thinks she’s a dog most of the time, but that’s okay because I love dogs (I love animals, really). But really, she’s great. She’s a good excuse to go to the zoo almost daily in the summer, and to watch a ton of Clifford and Magic School Bus with no judgment. If we’re not at the zoo or watching some really great ‘90s cartoons, then we are probably reading books or at the theatre.   If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why?   I want to live everywhere. I can’t even realistically answer that question. I love travel and I love adventure and exploring other cultures.   If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t-miss thing you would show them or do with them in FW?   Uh, the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. Or honestly, for a more age-appropriate good time, I’d block out a couple days to just explore downtown. People don’t understand how wonderful it is and how many hidden gems we have, not to mention the already well-known things DTFW has to offer. … We’d do a lot of eating.   If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing?   I refuse to do karaoke. To be honest, I really only know the words to show tunes or some...

LFW Spotlight: Travis Bartlett

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne were? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city.  In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Next in our series is one of our dear writers, Travis Bartlett. What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? I am a contributing writer for Living Fort Wayne. I decided to join Living Fort Wayne because I was seeking a creative outlet that also sheds light on the Fort Wayne community. LFW has helped me break out of my routine and meet new people that are impacting Fort Wayne in a great way. Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, family, pets, hobbies, etc.) Besides working my mundane retail job, I am also a photographer. I enjoy working with people on portraits and am currently working on a few projects. I am loving my life living in East Central with my boyfriend and a cat named Buffy. If you could live any other place in the world, besides Fort Wayne, where would you live and why? If I could live anywhere besides Fort Wayne, I would live in my hometown of Kalamazoo, MI! The city is very comparable to Fort Wayne and the brewery scene is also growing. Plus, I’d be closer to my family that I rarely get to see. If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in Fort Wayne? Usually I take my friends to a variety of Fort Wayne favorites when they visit, but I always make the first stop JK O’Donnell’s. From there I take them to Fort Wayne sights like the MLK bridge or inside the Grand Wayne Center. If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? To the people who have the misfortune of hearing me sing, they would have to listen to “I’ve Got Friends In Low Places” by Garth Brooks about a couple of times throughout the night. Sorry in advance. Stay tuned next month for another glimpse into one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers. Living Fort Wayne Spotlight: Jade Kelsey

Next in our series is our Partnership Development Co-Chair, Jade Kelsey. What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? I love Fort Wayne, and wanted to be a part of a group that showcases all of the cool things there are to see and do in my city. So, my role in Partnership Development is a perfect fit. Jasmine is my Co-Chair, and she is so great to work with. You can usually find us at Fortezza, our unofficial office space. Our job is the most fun! We get to talk to all kinds of people about their events, activities and plans for the future and then bring them back to our LFW team to write, promote and showcase. Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc). I’ve recently fallen in love with my bicycle, to the point that I’ve joined an advocacy group – Bicycle Friendly Fort Wayne. I commute to work, zip around my neighborhood, explore our greenways and even run errands. If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why? My parents recently re-located to Memphis, Tennessee, and I miss them very much. My fiancé and I enjoyed visiting some historical sites, museums and great restaurants on our last trip. Plus, you can’t beat Beale Street for drinks and jazz. If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in FW? Oh man, that’s tough. One thing? Probably Wunderkammer, because whatever they have going on will be perfectly local and fantastic. And then we can sneak over to Bravas for patatas. If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? Bohemian Rhapsody, because the crowd would sing along! Stay tuned next month for another glimpse into one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers. Living Fort Wayne Spotlight: Sarah (Pine) Verpooten

This week, I’m pleased to introduce you to our Living Fort Wayne social media guru, Sarah Pine! What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? My role within Living Fort Wayne is to take the articles written by all our amazing LFW writers and get them out to the people through our Social Media outlets. I have been a part of the Living Fort Wayne Team since the very beginning. I was approached by the pioneers of the site, Mike King and Matt Graves, to help them with the initial steps of getting the site up and going. LivingFortWayne.com is such a fun community-based site that really gives readers an intimate glimpse into this amazing city we call home. Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc). I am not originally from Fort Wayne but after being here for four years I am now a proud homeowner which officially makes me feel like a Fort Wayne resident! I live there with my fiancé Curtis and our dog Shelby, and we are in the midst of planning our wedding for June of this year! If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why? I’m not exactly a world traveler so I don’t know if there is anywhere outside of the United States where I’d want to live. Plenty of places I’d like to visit, but not live. I would love to live in Nashville, TN if I didn’t live in Fort Wayne. I love everything that city has to offer and the people are genuinely nice. If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one ‘can’t miss’ thing you would show them or do with them in FW? I am all about a chill night that involves going out and getting some drinks with friends. I would take my friend to either JK O’Donnell’s or Deer Park which are two of my favorite local pubs. If it were during the summer I would also consider taking my friend to Two EE’s or...
