LMB Massage & Wellness: An Oasis in the Heart of Downtown

I had hit the ‘end of winter blues’ that most Fort Wayne residents suffer from when it’s March but you’re still bundled up like an Eskimo just to walk the 30 seconds to your car. I wanted to do something good for myself, and set the refresh button on my mind and body because spring is a time of renewal. Since a warm jog on the trails wasn’t a real option, nor was a relaxing day on the beach in the budget, I decided on a massage. LMB is tucked on the 4th floor at 203 W. Wayne Street (directly across from where the new Ash building is going up). After exiting the elevator, you follow the hallway down to the end and about halfway there, the intoxicating scents of aromatherapy oils invite you in for further relaxation. I’m a big fan of aromatherapy and could already feel myself breathing a little deeper and relaxing a little more. The room was warm and calmly decorated, and I could see the massage room off to the left. There was a basket of tennis balls (which I would learn about later) as well as chocolates and water bottles on a table nearby. Lisa Borton, the proprietor of LMB massage greeted me warmly into the room and as I sat down, she handed me the intake form she has all of her clients complete. We chatted together as I filled out the information and then I handed it back to her. One of the things that immediately struck me was that she actually read the information that I had provided and asked questions about the information. I was pleased that she was paying attention to the information I had shared. After reviewing the form, she asked if I had any questions before starting, and then we proceeded to the massage room. The massage room was dimly lit and she’d had the massage table ‘pre-heating’ for me so I wouldn’t be chilly once I lay down. Lisa offers aromatherapy free of charge, so once we entered the massage room she led me to a long row of aromatherapy bottles and asked me to select up to two for our session. After that, she thoroughly explained how the massage session would go and left so that I could get ready. I had chosen a 45-minute full body session and Lisa did a wonderful job. She naturally focuses on the areas of the body that need the most attention, while still giving attention to everything else. There was calm music playing softly in the background, the room was warm and cozy, the whole experience was...

LMB Massage & Wellness: Personalized Attention and Downtown Convenience

LMB Massage and Wellness is celebrating its 1 year anniversary downtown, and I had the chance to sit down with owner, Lisa Borton to discuss her business and philosophy as well as why she chose downtown Fort Wayne as her business locale. LMB Massage & Wellness’ philosophy is to promote ‘healing through therapeutic massage and aromatherapy by bringing harmony and balance back to body and mind.’  But her practice goes well beyond that.  Lisa believes in using clean, organic products without synthetic chemicals. Everything used in her massage sessions is organic because she believes that what you put on your body is just as important as what you put into it.  Lisa uses medical grade essential oils in her aromatherapy ensuring that only the highest quality ingredients are being used. In her downtown practice, a heated table is used and hot towels and aromatherapy are complimentary.  Included in each session is bottled water and dark chocolate. Each new client receives a tennis ball to use on tense muscles between sessions with Lisa. As a downtown business, LMB specializes in stress management and also offers prenatal massage.  Lisa also offers to come to your business and do onsite chair massages, which are popular at both corporate offices for staff appreciation days and during finals week at local colleges and universities. In addition to the massage menu, LMB also offers several other items for purchase.  Pangea Organics, an organic, natural skin care line, are sold (and used in the session) as well as Lisa’s homemade aromatherapy products.  And in order to assist her clients in finding balance in both their personal and business lives, she offers Leonie Dawson’s books called Create Your Shining Year.  There are personal and business versions that offer a fun and encouraging way to set goals and stay organized for the year. I got to sit down with Lisa personally and ask her a few questions about her business as well: LS: How did you get started on your career path as a massage therapist? LMB: I’ve always wanted to own my own business. I did my massage therapy training in Milwaukee, and settled back in Fort Wayne. I worked for a few other massage businesses but knew that I wanted to start my own business one day so I could be in control of my practice and care for my clients in my own way. LS: What do you feel differentiates you from other massage and wellness businesses? LMB: I feel it’s really the consultation process that sets my practice apart. I really take the time to get to know my client’s needs and answer all...
