Dating Your City During The Holidays With Amber Stone…

I couldn’t think of a better topic to write about this month, than THE HOLIDAYS! If you’re a Fort Wayne newbie like me, then you’re in for a treat! I was mesmerized over what an amazing job this city did with the holidays. When you relocate, the holidays can be a bit rough. Traditions you’ve done with family and friends have become a memory. Christmas shopping with the girls is now seen via Facebook or Instagram. Despite all of the changes you will go through this time of year, I can testify that Fort Wayne has done it bigger than any city I’ve lived in. Let’s talk about the massive crowds that showed up to both Jefferson Pointe Tree Lighting, and Christmas on Broadway. Oh, let’s not forget the over 10,000 people at the PNC Santa lighting! If you were feeling blue this holiday season, being around the Christmas spirit in this city should have sprinkled a little cheer in your world.   For me, Christmas hasn’t been the same since I lost my Dad. Sometimes I feel like he was the inspiration behind Clark Griswold, because he always made sure to make the holidays something to remember. The challenging part this year was flipping to an all Christmas music station on Soft Rock 103.9. First thought was “oh Amber, this is going to be the hardest thing you’ve ever done.” Every memory and holiday tradition of mine was attached to the majority of the songs we played. You know what? It actually wasn’t bad at all. We (at Soft Rock) made it all about you and wanted our listeners to be happy and filled with Christmas spirit. There truly was never a dull moment right here in your backyard. Fantasy of Lights at Franke Park, Christmas on the Farm at Salomon Farm, downtown events, plus all our Christmas contests we planned for the station. The legendary Steve Shine, of Shine & Hardin, asked me this… “So Amber, did you think we were on steroids for Christmas around here?” It was an incredible time to see Fort Wayne. I do hope you had a chance to get home and be with family and friends. If not, I’m sure the city tried to make it a special experience for you. Now as we get ready for 2016, and the excitement of a new canvas to paint, take the time to know your new city. Make a list of all the places you would like to explore. There’s never a dull moment in Fort Wayne. Cheers to a New Year, chat soon!   Amber Stone Host of Amber Stone in...

New Year’s Eve 2015

Ahh…New Year’s Eve. A time where the best party food actually consists of snacks and finger-food, drinks are aplenty and it’s socially acceptable to allow children to stay up past their usual bed time (if they can make it that long). Midnight isn’t usually a big deal to us now, but New Year’s seems to be the only time where people make a point of counting down to a new day. Fort Wayne offers many venues to ring in 2015. Science Central’s Countdown to Noon (1950 Clinton St.): For those early birds or little ones who really just can’t stay up until midnight, this is for you. Party hats, noisemakers, face painting, science demonstrations and a giant balloon drop makes this the most kid-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration in town. At noon, there will be a soda toast and at the stroke of 12 p.m., 2,000 balloons will drop from the ceiling. 10a.m.-2 p.m. New Year’s Eve 2015 at Ceruti’s (6325 Illinois Road):  A $30 ticket includes entertainment by Good Night Gracie, hors d’oeuvres, midnight champagne toast, balloon drop, party favors and a cash bar. Those interested can visit here for tickets. VIP New Year’s Eve at The Philmore (2441 Broadway):  Supposedly Fort Wayne’s most exclusive VIP party for the New Year. A $100 VIP ticket includes an open bar from 9-12, a live band, dance DJ, champagne toast at midnight, red carpet/photographer and more. To purchase tickets, call Cyclone Social at (260) 622-8772 or click here. Swingin’ Singin’ New Years Eve at the Grand Wayne Center (120 W. Jefferson Blvd):  the Heartland Jazz vocalists and big band orchestra provides a different atmosphere for a New Year’s Eve celebration. There will be live music with dancing, drinks and food with a midnight champagne toast.  General admission is $60. Deer Park Irish Pub (1530 Leesburg Rd):  No cover, champagne and hors d’oeuvres, party supplies, open jukebox and a contest. The contest: Tell the best three-minute story from 2014 and the winner is January’s customer of the month. As customer of the month, your first beer is on the house every day during January. JK O’Donnell’s (121 W. Wayne): The Mighty McGuiggans will be performing from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with original songs and covers from Flogging Molly, the Dubliners, the Pogues, Dropkick Murphys and more. There will be a champagne toast at 7 p.m. for Irish New Year then Rhapsody in Wax takes the stage for Prohibition-era jazz from 10-midnight-thirty with a champagne toast at midnight. Piere’s (5629 St. Joe Rd.): As usual, Piere’s will bust out the breakfast buffet with the likes of Brother Believe Me rocking the place with free...
