Top 7 Bars for The Best Bros Night Ever

Work is over, the week is done, and now it’s time to loosen that tie and unwind with your guys. After a hectic work week, we at Living Fort Wayne can understand wanting to rage for the weekend. Here are some bars that have been carefully selected to ensure a great night out with the bros! Corner Pocket Located down the street from IPFW’s campus, this makes it a great place to catch a brew right after classes are over. $5.00 long islands/beaches and $2.75 domestics on Friday and Saturday nights. With frequent live music and a pool hall to enjoy, Corner Pocket has everything you need to scratch that college party itch. O’Sullivan’s Catch the game or a few adult drinks. This place is known for their pizza, cheap (and generous) drinks, and overall raggle-taggle atmosphere. If one of the stops is here, just get the pizza. Don’t ask questions, just get the pizza. Your crew will not regret it. Columbia Street West Talk about a great time in a spacious, fun bar and you’ve got Columbia Street West! Wednesday and Thursday nights they have $1 domestic longnecks and 2$ Coronas & Modelos! Weekends are filled with a live DJ ready for you to bust a move on the dance floor. The Deck at the Gas House Overlooking the St. Mary’s River, The Deck has the best summer atmosphere you can get in Fort Wayne. They have an amazing beer selection as well as top-notch cocktails that will leave you feeling satisfied and probably not able to drive. This place reaches maximum bro around 11PM-1AM, so plan accordingly. Rudy’s Cigar Shop A one of a kind place that serves up beer, wine slushies and cigars! Grab a stogy, head out to their cozy beer garden, and sit around a fire with your friends while enjoying Rudy’s selection of beer and wine. Did I mention that they serve Debrand’s Chocolate as well? Tower Bar & Grill I’ve heard from many sources that this place offers the best wings in town, and the rumor is so true. You deserve it, the guys deserve it, get those wings and pile them high. Shamelessly devour them devoid of any napkins until the end. The wings are so good that I would literally cater them for my wedding. Summit City Brewerks Friday and Saturday nights here are becoming increasingly popular, and how can it not when Summit City Brewerks offers half off bottles of wine on Fridays and live music on Saturdays? Wanting to start the weekend a little early? Summit City also has a half-off house pint night on Thursdays! I would also...

LFW’s Top Picks for Best Dive Bars

We have all had those night outings where just one drink turns into ten drinks and a few Snakebite shots. For this installment, your friends at LFW have compiled a list of the best dive bars to venture out to on those unexpected wild nights. These are your famous local “hole-in-the-wall” bars that you may stumble into after midnight. Let LFW guide you to having the best night you can remember for a lifetime…hopefully.   Wendy Englehart – Committee Co-Chair If you’re looking for a hole-in-the-wall Cheers bar with cheap drinks, a great jukebox, and longtime friends –have a seat. The Shady Nook is an addicting local favorite for young and old.   Lynn Altevogt – Editorial Chair Little by little, O’Sullivans, or O’s, as we affectionately call it, has become sort of like Cheers for me and my group of friends. We know most, if not all, of the bartenders and often they know our favorite drink before we even order it. It’s the sort of atmosphere where you can have a fun night out partying Saturday night or a casual drink during the Colts game Sunday afternoon. I wouldn’t necessarily call O’s my favorite dive bar- I’d just call it my favorite bar.   Becca Bell – Editorial Contributor On Fridays, I like Curly’s Village Inn for Karaoke – or as I like to call it, “Curlyoke”. But of course, The Brass Rail will always hold a special place in my heart, my wallet, and my music collection.   Tim Zink – Committee Co-Chair More of a friendly, neighborhood bar, the Trion Tavern is one of the oldest bars in Allen County, according to its website. The Trion has an awesome mahogany main bar with a selection of imported and domestic drafts and craft beers on tap. Browse the Trion’s interactive daily tap list while checking out their awesome burgers and cracker crust pizza. As someone who only occasionally partakes in alcohol, I’ve always been comfortable with the atmosphere here at this friendly bar in New Haven.   Courtney Bell – Technology Chair My top dive bar is Arena Bar and Grill. It is located on the corner of Dupont and Lima so it is a convenient stop after a dinner or movie up north, and features great karaoke on Thursday nights. This bar is packed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and has pretty decent food. Be sure to try the bacon cheese fries and pizza!   Sarah Pine – Social Media Assistant Deer Park Irish Pub is by far one of my favorite dive bars in town! It is an eclectic little “hole in the wall” pub...

TRONIC Thursdays light up the night

There are many bars and nightclubs you can go to in Fort Wayne to dance and listen to music. But where can you go to visually experience music played by top DJs? Every Thursday night on West Main Street, the bass starts pounding as the lights drop at O’Sullivan’s Irish Italian Pub for one of Fort Wayne’s most unique musical and visual presentations. As a staple of Fort Wayne’s electronic music scene, TRONIC Thursdays by Perpetual Entertainment has been providing an impressive addition to the nightlife of this city since 2008. O’Sullivan’s classic checkerboard dance floor is hopping from 10:00 pm until 3:00 am with DJs playing a variety of music from electronic, EDM, and techno to industrial, mechanical, and house. These experienced DJs from Fort Wayne and other major cities get down and work their magic with Perpetual’s state-of-the-art “wall of sound” and visual effects, which transforms half of the normally classical styled bar into a contemporary mix of pronounced bass, fog, colored lights, and moving bodies. Organizing the event every week takes “a lot of work, effort, and time,” said Dominick Allen, organizer of the event, who is frequently thanked by guests for providing a weekly escape. The event has evolved through the years to include lights and special effects to give the shows additional character that sets them apart from other offerings in the city. Above the dance floor, Perpetual’s visual effects system (consisting of moving heads, intelligent lighting, scanners, mirrors, and lasers with a Hurricane Fogger) is expertly mixed together to create a scene that is truly one of a kind in Fort Wayne. Despite a significant amount of investment, there is no cover charge to get into the TRONIC events. This week come out to see the following acts performing with Perpetual’s “wall of sound”: Dap-1 Dom Allen Ken Pyre (a first time performer at TRONIC from Indianapolis) Dark Matter MSG-1 For more information on TRONIC Thursdays, please visit Perpetual Entertainment’s Facebook page. Be sure to keep an eye on their page for other indoor/outdoor events in the Fort Wayne area. If you are a music artist interested in playing at an event, contact them and send a demo mix to perpetual.ent.1@gmail.com or just drop by one of their events and talk to them. O’Sullivan’s Irish Italian Pub is open Monday to Friday, 4:00 pm – 3:00 am and Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 pm – 3:00 am. They are located on 1808 W. Main St., Fort Wayne, Indiana...
