Pinestock Music Festival expands to two days, new location

An experience – a chance to disconnect – a place to get away near ‘Busco – that’s how some would describe this weekend’s upcoming Pinestock Music Festival in Churubusco, Indiana (22 miles northwest of downtown Fort Wayne). In its fifth year, Pinestock is now a two-night event beginning 7 p.m. on Friday, September 11 with a new location about a mile from the original site. “This is by far our biggest attempt and endeavor so far making it two nights,” said co-founder and operations manager Nicholas Weaver. There are about twenty bands and artists performing during the two-day festival. Acts range from folk, indie, and rock to hip hop, and electronic. On Friday night, Pinestock is branching out into the community by taking over two local Churubusco bars – DW Bar & Grill (see lineup) and Michelle’s Bar & Grill (see lineup)- with five live acts playing in each, and both bars will have their own drink specials for purchase. A trolley will take attendees from the new main festival site at Little Slice of Heaven Disc Golf Course to each of the bars. “We’re really trying to integrate in with the community of Churubusco and let them know this is not just some party that they can’t come to,” said Weaver. On Saturday night, nine acts (with a possible surprise tenth act) will be performing in the main festival area (see lineup). Two-day and Saturday-only ticket options are available for purchase at the gate or on the Pinestock website here. Volunteers can receive free or discounted tickets to the event (see more information). The festival this year has expanded food and beverage options. Bottomless beer will be available at the festival site on Saturday night and is included in select ticket prices. Chapman’s Brewing Company is a partial sponsor of the beer this year, and Bravas Food will be serving up their food truck creations with Mocha Lounge offering some specialty breakfast items on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Food is not included in the ticket price. “People are excited to camp Friday night,” said Weaver. “They are excited to come out and get into those bars. I think they’re excited to ride the trolley, too.” Weaver anticipates 500-600 attendees at this year’s festival as it continues to steadily grow with more music acts. “It’s just a small group of friends here who have started it and it will probably stay that way until we get to a point where we can’t handle it,” said Weaver. This small group, along with volunteers, make this festival a unique experience for all those who attend. “We were just sitting around a bonfire talking about music festivals that we...
