Hidden Gems of Dupont & Lima

Coming to Fort Wayne, I was excited to move into Avalon Apartments on the corner of Dupont & Lima because I fell in love with the quaint look and feel of the apartment complex and the conveniences the surrounding businesses had to offer.  However, I was expecting to have to drive downtown or southwest for a nice dinner and night out on the town.  What I didn’t realize at the time was that I would soon be spending the majority of my weekends walking beautiful trails, eating delectable dinners accompanied by my favorite martinis, and ending nights with karaoke, all without leaving my plaza! My typical Saturday morning begins with an iced latte from Trionfale before I take a jog on the YMCA trail. Located off of Dupont, Trionfale is a local coffee shop that serves everything from salted caramel macaroons to delicious cappuccinos.  The YMCA trail may look deceivingly small when driving down Dupont, but the trail loops nearly 2 miles around the beautiful Solomon Farms and into the country. If I feel like a longer run, I take the Pufferbelly Trail which connects to the YMCA trail for an extra mile.  And if I’m in the mood to treat myself after my jog, I might get a mani/pedi or hair cut and color at The Forum Salon & Spa. This salon is my favorite in town and offers impeccable customer service. My favorite Saturday night dinner location is located merely a short walk from my doorstep. Black Canyon restaurant offers a modern and sophisticated atmosphere with delicious, modernized American meals and a broad variety of well-made drinks.  Their homemade cornbread is to die for, and accompanied by a fresh salad and banana foster for dessert, you will leave more than satisfied. And if martinis are not your cup of tea, they offer an entire drink menu with a variety of craft beers and wine. After dinner I often migrate next door to Arena Bar & Grill.  Looks may be deceiving from the outside, but inside you will find a cozy atmosphere with reasonably priced drinks, a dance floor, pool, and a tasty bar menu. And of course, karaoke at this bar is a must! I am proud to call this quaint corner of the city my home.  Don’t be afraid to venture to this area of town for a night of entertainment and by all means, try the chocolate martini from Black Canyon.  ...

Then head to DeBrand Fine Chocolates for some truly decadent desserts and chocolate. Lynn Altevogt – Editorial Chair Take your date to a Let’s Comedy show. Follow this with a stroll down Wells Street. For lunch, head around the corner to Caliente Cuban Cafe – not the biggest place in town, but if you like Cuban sandwiches and small, locally-owned establishments with character, this place rocks! Spend the afternoon at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo – a Fort Wayne favorite since 1965, who knows how many dates have happened here. Even the monkeys have love in the air. Leslie Snare – Director at Large Meet at Fortezza for coffee and then catch an independent flick at the Cinema Center. After the film, head to Summit City Brewerks for beer flights and snacks.
