LFW Member Spotlight – Alex Modarressi

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne are? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city. In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Today we are spotlighting Living Fort Wayne’s Vice Chair of Community Engagement, Alex Modarressi! What is your role with Living Fort Wayne and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? My role at Living Fort Wayne is Vice Chair of Community Engagement. I believe Fort Wayne has many great local businesses and there are some wonderful people who live here. I wanted to attribute to an organization with values that were for the betterment of communities in and around Fort Wayne. Tell us one thing about your life outside of Living Fort Wayne I am looking forward to taking an Entrepreneurial leap soon. I find myself inspired by the people here who are willing to help others succeed and the programs that foster entrepreneurship within this region of Indiana and beyond. If you could live any other place in the world, besides Fort Wayne, where would you live and why? I would consider living in New Mexico or Southern California even though I have never visited either. People say they love the weather, that people are more social and not as socially inhibited.. If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in Fort Wayne? There are so many fun things going on in Fort Wayne that t makes this is difficult question. If I had to choose one thing I would suggest we attempt to ride all 25 miles of the Rivergreenway or bike around town! If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? Whatever someone would wanna sing with me. Keep your eyes peeled for the next spotlight with another one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers. If you’d like to learn more about opportunities to help out with our blog, send us an email at info@livingfortwayne.com or reach out to us on Twitter and Facebook. We’re always interested in meeting with other folks who are passionate about sharing all that’s great about living, working and playing right here in Fort...

Today we are spotlighting Living Fort Wayne’s Chair, Victoria Sarjeant! What is your role with Living Fort Wayne and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? My role with Living Fort Wayne is Chair. I decided to volunteer because I was already a blogger and I thought it would easily fit into my current personal activities. I also wanted to get involved with YLNI for a while and this seemed like the perfect area to get my start. I started as a writer in July of 2017 and became Vice Chair in November of 2017. I became Chair in early June 2018. Tell us one thing about your life outside of Living Fort Wayne  I love to stay busy volunteering, blogging, or making crafts. I am active with the Emerging Leaders Alliance and Big Brothers Big Sisters. If I am not working with any of those things, I am probably watching Netflix with my cats, Jacob and Amber. If you could live any other place in the world, besides Fort Wayne, where would you live and why? If it was a different country, I would have to say Norway. That fits since most of my heritage is in the Scandinavian countries. If I went to any other city in the US, it would have to be Boston or Seattle. I am obsessed with Revolutionary War era history and Boston is full of it. I love Seattle because I love the scenery around the city and the atmosphere. I also love Maine! If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in Fort Wayne? I would most likely take a visitor out to eat at a local restaurant or bar. Normally I take people to Wine Down, Hoppy Gnome, or JK O’Donnell’s. People don’t come somewhere and expect to go to a chain. I think those are all great examples of the unique places we have to offer. I also have friends that come just to go to DeBrand Fine Chocolate. Growing up in central Indiana, we didn’t really have a place like that...

Today we are spotlighting Living Fort Wayne’s Managing Editor and Blogger, Rachel Stephens! What is your role with Living Fort Wayne and why did you decide to volunteer with us? I am the managing Editor and a blogger with Living Fort Wayne. I love writing and I love Northeast Indiana so volunteer for Living Fort Wayne seemed like a perfect fit. Tell us one thing about your life outside of Living Fort Wayne. I love to cook! When I am not working or writing I am surfing Pinterest and whipping up new recipes in the kitchen. If you could live any place in the world, besides Fort Wayne, where would you live and why? If I had to take up residence elsewhere, I would dream big and permanently live at the Four Seasons Resort in Bora Bora. While I have never been to Bora Bora, the idea of waking up in paradise next to the ocean everyday is enough to sell me. If you had a friend come in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in Fort Wayne? If I had a friend come in the summertime, I would have to show them the YLNI Farmers Market on Barr Street. Strolling downtown, picking up local produce and ordering lunch from a food truck is the perfect Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon experience, What is the most interesting place you’ve been in Fort Wayne that you don’t think many people know about? Over the summer I had the chance to tour the Electric Works campus. I am sure by now everybody knows about this exciting project, but it was a cool experience to see the old GE campus and hear about its former operations and how that history will be preserved in its renovations.   If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? “Remix to Ignition.” No doubt about it. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Spotlight with another one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers. Today we are spotlighting Living Fort Wayne’s Strategic Marketing Manager, Tiana Maclin! What is your role with Living Fort Wayne and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? My role at Living Fort Wayne is the Strategic Marketing Manager. I decided to volunteer because of the amount of potential Fort Wayne has. As a new resident to Fort Wayne, I find it important to know what activities are going on around our community, sharing stories and allowing for a greater “togetherness”. Tell us one thing about your life outside of Living Fort Wayne I am a creative person. I enjoy writing music and expressing myself creatively. I am so happy that Sweetwater is nearby and there are plenty of ways to experience the arts. If you could live any other place in the world, besides Fort Wayne, where would you live and why? If I could live anywhere in the world? That is a tough question! Can I have a top three? I would say Prague, Czech Republic; Ljubljana, Slovenia; or Dubrovnik, Croatia. I think these places are beautiful and I loved their culture. If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in Fort Wayne? If I had a friend coming to town, we would probably go to the shops in downtown Fort Wayne. They are so quaint and I love the individuality. Today we are spotlighting Living Fort Wayne’s director-at-large, Leslie Snare! What is your role with Living Fort Wayne and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? I am currently serving as the director-at-large for Living Fort Wayne, which means that I’m basically the liaison between Living Fort Wayne and Young Leaders Northeast Indiana (YLNI). I oversee the strategic direction of our website and social media presence. Tell us one thing about your life outside of Living Fort Wayne Besides LFW, you’ll probably find me running the trails or in a local race. I’ve got two goals for 2017—to qualify as an Ironrunner with the Fort Wayne Running Club and to complete my first full marathon at Fort4Fitness this fall. If you could live any other place in the world, besides Fort Wayne, where would you live and why? Oh, I’m definitely heading to southern California…I love the laid back vibes of San Diego, plus the mountains, the oceans, and the year round warm weather would keep my running shoes perpetually laced up! If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in Fort Wayne? That’s a tough one, but I’d have to say I’d definitely take someone to Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown. Visit Fort Wayne hosts this annual event where a lot of the downtown museums and attractions offer free admission, so it’s a great opportunity to check out the best of downtown, like the Botanical Gardens, the Embassy Theatre, and the historic Allen County Courthouse. If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? I’ve never done karaoke, and have terrible stage fright, so it’s definitely not high on my priority list. That being said, you can often catch me singing along to Kings of Leon or car dancing to any number of hip hop or EDM songs. Don’t judge. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Spotlight with another one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers.
