Dating Your City With Amber Stone: Spring Has Arrived In Fort Wayne!

Spring has sprung in Fort Wayne! If you catch any bits of my radio show during the week, you’ll hear me say “There is always something going on in Fort Wayne,”quite a bit. It’s true! Now that the warm weather is here, you will see people out and about enjoying the city. I can’t tell you how many creative and exciting events pop up on my Facebook page. Most recently, Fort Wayne has installed bike shares. I think this is an incredible idea. I just had my first biking experience this week and it was fantastic! It’s been over 5 years since riding a bike, and I forgot how much fun it can be. You truly look at the city in a different way, as opposed to a car ride. During my bike riding adventure, I finally made it over to Pedal City. Now, let’s talk about a gem! While at Pedal City, you can sit outside and play corn hole, beer pong, or ping pong. Not feeling sporty? Sit back, relax and take in the patio vibes on a nice. sunny afternoon. We’re now getting into the fun part of the year. Whether you catch a festival, TinCaps game, or day drinking with friends on a patio, get out and enjoy this progressing city! I have seen Fort Wayne grow over the past 8 months, it’s a positive time to live and experience this thriving downtown. We can only hope that outsiders invest and capture how great Fort Wayne can be. This week, I encourage you to partake in something fun around downtown. Get on a bike rental and ride around, catch an art show, or find some live music. Make sure to take in the fun and vibrant feel Fort Wayne has going on. Until our next adventure, cheers!...

Fort-4-Fitness Spring Cycle

With cycling close to my heart and as a participant since its induction, I have to let you know about this wonderful, fun, family event.  The Fort-4-Fitness Spring Cycle  event promotes fitness for any fitness level from the casual to the serious cyclist. Two and half years ago on 1/1/2012, I chose to start my ‘get healthy’ journey.  It was quite the struggle but by time the 1st annual Spring Cycle had come along, I had lost over 20 pounds!  I was so excited to hear about Fort-4-Fitness’s cycling event that I decided to go out and get a special attachment for my bike so that my 3 year old could ride with my 11 year old and me.  We biked from our home through downtown to the event and then rode on the family 3 mile tour through downtown Fort Wayne.  It was so exhilarating and afterwards the weather was warm enough that my kids played at the Headwaters splash pad.  At the end of the day we still had the long ride back home again.  It was a long, exciting day! During the event, my kids and I met Johnny Tincap, had pictures taken, saw some awesome places downtown that we revisited,  and received T-shirts and a sling bag that had some awesome treats for us after our ride was over.  Our picture ended up in the newspaper the next day and we were on almost every page of the flyer for the next year! The following year we had to do the Spring Cycle again!  This time it was bigger, better and had lots more!  On top of everything we were able to do the first year, there were vendors, food trucks, the Barr Street Market and LOTS more people! Because of events like this in the Summit City, I have been able to lose an additional 37 pounds and have been able to keep it off!  I am healthier and better because of it! So come on down and either start your journey or continue your journey!  Just enjoy a wonderful day’s worth of activities at the Fort-4-Fitness Spring Cycle event on May 17, 2014!  Take one of the tours (18, 33 or 43 , miles) or come on down with the family for the free ‘Kickstart...
