Welcome back Fun Filers! Here is this week’s Top Ten presented by yours truly. We hope you enjoy our must-do picks this week.   Friday, July 31st 1. FW Children’s Choir Choralfast 7:00 – 8:00 pm Foellinger Theatre 3411 Sherman Blvd All of the choral ensembles that make up the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir will be performing. This is a FREE Family Concert with ASL Interpretation. 2. I Will Wait – The Veteran’s Spouse Project 8:00 – 10:00 pm Parkview Physicians Group Arts Lab 300 E. Main Street Tickets: $20 I Will Wait The Veteran’s Spouse Project is about sending a loved one to war. Using actual spouses’ experiences, they have woven a story told through music, dance, and drama to show the vast range of emotions it takes to bid goodbye and welcome service members home. The first image is Bridget Pearson, who is playing the WWII spouse in the show. The second image is Amy Ball-Uptgraft, who dreamed up the project and is co-writer. She is also acting as Operation Enduring Freedom spouse in the show. She’s a real life military wife. 3. Botanical Roots – Wayne Baker Brooks with Swick & Jones 8:30 – 11:00 pm Botanical Conservatory 1100 S. Calhoun St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Opening acts will begin at 8:30 p.m. Headliners will perform approximately 9:15-11:00 p.m. Tickets: $6; children age 12 and under will be admitted free with a parent or guardian. The Botanical Roots concert series is open to all ages. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Mad Anthony Brewing offers food and full bar service. Bringing cash is recommended. Introducing The Living Fort Wayne Fun File! We’ll fill you in on our picks for the top ten events every week in Fort Wayne. Look for the Fun File every Thursday from here on out!   Here are our picks for this week’s top ten to-do’s! 1. Disney’s Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical Fort Wayne Civic Theatre 303 E Main Street Saturday, July 25th, at 8:00 pm. Sunday, July 26th, at 2:00 pm. This family friendly show is directed and choreographed by Tony Award Nominee Jane Lanier.   Tickets can be bought here! Show runs until August 9th. 2. YLNI Barr Street Market 302 E Berry St. Saturday, July 25th, open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Yes, we mention this event a lot but can you blame us?! Look for our Barr Street Market Series coming up! It is a market that offers fresh and unique local produce, plants, meats, baked goods and homemade crafts in a cultural outdoor setting. There’s FREE parking available in the History Center lot along Berry Street and on the streets in the surrounding blocks. Admission to the History Center is FREE during market hours as well. 3. LFW Film Series – The Goonies IPFW Alumni Center 1528 E California Rd. Saturday, July 25th Once again, I am being biased, but who can resist this Spielberg classic? The Goonies is the third film in our film series. At 8:00 pm there will be family-friendly activities, local food trucks and DJ Josh Elias bringing the noise! The Goonies will start at 9:00 pm. 4. Free Outdoor Movie Series 3410 North Anthony Boulevard Saturday, July 25th Films will start at dusk, around 8:45 pm. Adventure time with another great film series, movies showing will be Pee Wee’s Big Adventure and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure! This series is hosted by Sweets So Geek, Cinema Center, Ivy Tech Community College, and the North Anthony Corridor! 5. Pride 2015 Headwaters Park 330 S Clinton St. Friday, July 24th from 7:00 pm to 11:59 pm. Saturday, July 25th from 12:00pm to 11:59 pm. Celebrate the 19th Fort Wayne Pride Festival. Voted Fort Wayne’s 3rd favorite festival, Pride includes a full entertainment stage, beer tent, vendor market, food, KidSpace, and a corn hole tournament. All ages and sexualities are welcome. The Pride March will start on Saturday at 11:15 am beginning and ending in front of Headwaters Park. 6. The Sounds of Touch Foellinger Theatre 3411 Sherman Blvd. Saturday, July 25th at 8:00 pm. Wayne Farmer’s July 4th Market 9:00 am – 1:00pm Barr Street/Wayne Street This market offers a variety of producer-only vendors – Farm and Garden, Home-based Food, Natural Products and Crafters. The FWFM is proud to offer fresh produce and foods that are grown or made in our region. Including selections for those with special dietary needs or restrictions including vegetarian, vegan, paleo, sugar-free and gluten-free. “Buy Local, Buy Fresh” for all the parties happening later in the afternoon. https://www.facebook.com/ftwaynesfm 2. YLNI Barr Street Market 9:00 am – 1:00pm 302 East Berry Street This market we’ve talked about before but just in case you forgot, every vendor is local, coming from Allen or surrounding counties! The YLNI Barr Street Market is run entirely by volunteers. FREE parking is available in the History Center lot along Berry Street and on the streets in the surrounding blocks, with ample opportunities to lock up a bicycle as well. Admission to the History Center is FREE during market hours. (YES, this market is different than the one mentioned above.) 3. Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo 9:00 am – 6:00pm 3411 Sherman Blvd. See how the wild bunch live on the 4th of July. Our Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is ranked one of the highest in the country! 4. 4th of July All Levels Yoga 10:00am – 11:30am Please join the downtown Prana Yoga location for the celebration of Independence Day. All regular classes at both locations will be cancelled. If you want to give back this Saturday, donations will go to The Pranayoga Foundation dedicated to providing wellness and healing for people on the cancer journey and living with chronic pain.
