Cupid’s Chocolate Chase 5k & Mocha Mile

Chocolate + running; what’s not to love? I may be a bit biased here because those are two of my very favorite things, but there’s something for everyone to love at the inaugural Cupid’s Chocolate Chase 5k on February 13th. Race Directors Mike Else and Ryan Walters have teamed up with several local businesses to put on this pre-Valentine’s Day event in downtown Fort Wayne. The race will feature a 5k distance as well as a 1-mile option. And even if running or walking isn’t your bag, the extra goodies provided should be enough to entice anyone into participating. “All participants will receive chocolate treats from DeBrand Fine Chocolates, a cookie from Ellison Bakery, hot chocolate from the Mocha Lounge and chocolate dipping treats from Fort Wayne Chocolate Fountain and those 21+ will also receive a beer from Summit City Brewerks.  For an additional cost we will have beer, wine, as well as wine slushies from Two EE’s Winery,” Else said. Sound too good to be true? Well it gets better. All proceeds from the race will benefit the ALS Association of Indiana. A representative from the Indiana Chapter of the ALS Association will be on hand race day to accept the donation. Sadly, co-race director Ryan Walters lost his father to ALS. This was the driving motivation behind the creation of the race. “I had the idea to put on a fun themed type of race that would be something different,” Else mentioned. The start and finish of the race will be directly outside of Parkview Field and the course will be along the city streets just south of the stadium. Maps of both courses are available on the race website. There will be a post-race party at Parkview Field with food, drinks, live music, and a raffle with lots of cool prizes. All proceeds will benefit the ALS Association of Indiana. “It’s our first year for the race and we would like to thank all our great sponsors and look forward to making this a yearly event in downtown Fort Wayne!” Else added. Online registration is open until February 11th or until all of the 800 spots are still open. Currently, there are less than 200 spots left, so make sure to register right away if you want to be a part of this amazing event! Head over to CupidsChocolateChase.com to secure your spot! If there are still spots available, there will be registration available at packet pickup on Friday, February 12th from 4 pm til 7 pm at DeBrand as well as race morning from 7:30 til 8:30...

Living Fort Wayne Spotlight: Sarah (Pine) Verpooten

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne were? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city.  In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. This week, I’m pleased to introduce you to our Living Fort Wayne social media guru, Sarah Pine! What is your role within LFW and why did you decide to volunteer for our blog? My role within Living Fort Wayne is to take the articles written by all our amazing LFW writers and get them out to the people through our Social Media outlets. I have been a part of the Living Fort Wayne Team since the very beginning. I was approached by the pioneers of the site, Mike King and Matt Graves, to help them with the initial steps of getting the site up and going. LivingFortWayne.com is such a fun community-based site that really gives readers an intimate glimpse into this amazing city we call home. Tell us one thing about your life outside of LFW. (Job, Family, pets, hobbies, etc). I am not originally from Fort Wayne but after being here for four years I am now a proud homeowner which officially makes me feel like a Fort Wayne resident! I live there with my fiancé Curtis and our dog Shelby, and we are in the midst of planning our wedding for June of this year! If you could live any other place in the world, beside FW, where would you live and why? I’m not exactly a world traveler so I don’t know if there is anywhere outside of the United States where I’d want to live. Plenty of places I’d like to visit, but not live. I would love to live in Nashville, TN if I didn’t live in Fort Wayne. I love everything that city has to offer and the people are genuinely nice. If you had a friend coming in from out of town, what is the one ‘can’t miss’ thing you would show them or do with them in FW? I am all about a chill night that involves going out and getting some drinks with friends. I would take my friend to either JK O’Donnell’s or Deer Park which are two of my favorite local pubs. If it were during the summer I would also consider taking my friend to Two EE’s or...
