My Cold Hearted Valentine

Murder! Mystery! Valentine’s Day! Wait…what? You read that right, go back and read it again if you need to. I’ll wait. Okay I lied, I couldn’t wait! Science Central is putting its own fun twist on Valentine’s Day weekend. Want to do something new and different with your Valentine? My Cold Hearted Valentine is a murder mystery event taking place on Friday, February 13th at 7:00-10:00 p.m. Patrons can pre-register right here. You do need to be 21 and over. Sorry young folk. Plus if you pre-register online by 10:00 a.m. February 12, one complimentary drink ticket per individual will be given out. Pre-registration prices are $20 for individuals and $35 for couples. At the door, $25 for individuals and $40 for couples. I know that was a lot of information to process but keep using your brains because while you will be enjoying drinks and mingling you’ll also be interviewing suspects and learning techniques used by real forensic scientists to investigate actual murder cases. Science Central’s Executive Director, Martin Fisher wants you to learn and enjoy. “One of the unique aspects of a hands-on science center is that we get to merge both the educational angle AND the entertainment side. I’d say a unique, evening murder mystery for adults certainly fits that theme. Yeah… ‘Cold-Hearted Valentine’… now THAT will get people to use their brain to solve a mystery, and should be a lot of fun!” At the end of the evening, once you have solved the mystery by accusing the correct suspect(s) you will be awarded by being entered into a drawing to win one of two doors prizes featuring items by: Country Heritage Winery, Main Street Bistro, Cinema Center, Botanical Conservatory, Prana Yoga and Jai Juice. Want to win some tickets? 95.1 BEST FM is sponsoring this wonderful evening and will be giving away tickets prior to the event. Anyone can cook dinner and buy flowers for their Valentine. Spice up your Valentine’s Day with some mystery at Science...

A Valentine’s Gift Your Guy Will Love – And Really Use!

Guys tend to get overlooked when it comes to Valentine’s Day gifts. Somehow the holiday became about spoiling the lady in your life with chocolate, jewelry, and flowers. So we ask you, why not get the special guy in your life a gift on this loving day? This year, let’s spoil those guys! We could go the traditional route and pick up something we find at the store like a stuffed animal or some boxers with lips on them…or we could get creative. Monthly subscription boxes are kind of big right now. They started with boxes stuffed with makeup samples for women but the men’s subscription boxes have become very popular lately. Boxes for the gents have included themes such as monthly shaving clubs, outfit in a box, and men’s grooming gift boxes. Say what? Men want “grooming” products? Color us surprised, but yes they do! (They just don’t want to admit it.) Here’s how to duplicate one of those men’s grooming gift boxes and give your guy something he really wants for Valentine’s Day – but would never ask for. You can go two routes: a basket that your guy might keep to store the items in, or a gift box. These can be purchased at your favorite retail or hobby store. To keep it unique, try to include one homemade item. We decided to make our own beard oil since beards have become so popular and beard oil is the new thing. To make this, you’ll need a base oil – aka carrier oil – that will be the bulk of your oil. You can use any kind: argan, sunflower, jojoba, olive, etc… We used organic olive oil because it already has a musky type scent so it’s perfect. Then, add a few drops of a fragrant oil of your choice. Clove is a great scent for a guy, so we picked up a bottle of clove bud oil from Earth Fare. Right under the oils are cute little empty bottles that are perfect for the homemade oil and very affordable. Add drops of the essential oil until the scent is perfect. Your guy will apply this to his facial hair and thank you since many bearded guys struggle with dry, itchy skin under that hair. If your man is beardless, they can use the oil on their faces at night or perhaps you could give him a back massage with it. Wink wink. Another great thing to pick up is a shaving gift set. Even if he has a beard, he most likely still shaves some portion of his face and if not, these kits include pretty great products...
