Recently, we decided perhaps there is a better way to share our region’s story! Today we are regrouping and focusing in our strengths – our strong social media channels like Facebook and Instagram. In addition to this, we are in the process of developing some new high impact, interactive content ideas for telling the story of our region better! Keep an eye out in the coming months as we usher in the next generation of Living Fort Wayne! Also, be sure to check out our annual Living Fort Wayne Concert Series again this...

Alex Modarressi – Why Did You Stay Here?

Alex Modarressi – Why Did You Stay Here?

Alex Modarressi, Vice Chair of Community Engagement, Living Fort Wayne A few years back I was debating with myself “Why would I choose to live here” and “Why would I choose to move”.  What reasons should I move for…. my career, better income, personal growth, or maybe a greater sense of belonging…?  I felt if I could answer why I would chose not to live here that it might help answer what I should be looking for somewhere else. During this time of reflection, I found community experiences such as local art and culture had not been explored and that my lack of involvement would not be a reasonable enough excuse for me to leave the region or state. So I started looking for ways to become involved and opening myself to opportunities to help our communities.  This is when Living Fort Wayne and Wunderkammer started posting their need for volunteers.  I started to attend local events and seeing needs that I could fulfill and had conversations about how to become more involved.  One thing led to another and to me being a part of local organizations I believe in such as YLNI, Rotaract, Pine Hills City Church, and others like Clyde Theatre and Fort Wayne SOUP. YLNI’s Living Fort Wayne Committee wants to know your answers to one or both of these questions. “Why Did You Move Here?” or “Why Did You Stay Here?” Email your one-two paragraph answer to one of these questions to Tim Zink at timz@ylni.org. There are two photo options – you may include a professional headshot with your answers (quickest) or you can set up an appointment to have your photo taken later this summer. Please include your preferred name and title. Your photo and response may be used on YLNI’s Living Fort Wayne website, Facebook, Twitter, and/or...

LFW Member Spotlight – Rachel Stephens

Have you ever wondered who the people behind Living Fort Wayne are? Or maybe you’re curious about the different things our team does every day that make Living Fort Wayne the go-to destination for all the great things happening in our city. In this new spotlight series, we’ll be featuring a few of our amazing volunteers who will share a bit about their contributions to Living Fort Wayne and what they do outside of their volunteer work with us. Today we are spotlighting Living Fort Wayne’s Managing Editor and Blogger, Rachel Stephens! What is your role with Living Fort Wayne and why did you decide to volunteer with us? I am the managing Editor and a blogger with Living Fort Wayne. I love writing and I love Northeast Indiana so volunteer for Living Fort Wayne seemed like a perfect fit. Tell us one thing about your life outside of Living Fort Wayne. I love to cook! When I am not working or writing I am surfing Pinterest and whipping up new recipes in the kitchen. If you could live any place in the world, besides Fort Wayne, where would you live and why? If I had to take up residence elsewhere, I would dream big and permanently live at the Four Seasons Resort in Bora Bora. While I have never been to Bora Bora, the idea of waking up in paradise next to the ocean everyday is enough to sell me. If you had a friend come in from out of town, what is the one can’t miss thing you would show them or do with them in Fort Wayne? If I had a friend come in the summertime, I would have to show them the YLNI Farmers Market on Barr Street. Strolling downtown, picking up local produce and ordering lunch from a food truck is the perfect Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon experience, What is the most interesting place you’ve been in Fort Wayne that you don’t think many people know about? Over the summer I had the chance to tour the Electric Works campus. I am sure by now everybody knows about this exciting project, but it was a cool experience to see the old GE campus and hear about its former operations and how that history will be preserved in its renovations.   If you were going to karaoke tonight, what song would you sing? “Remix to Ignition.” No doubt about it. Keep your eyes peeled for the next Spotlight with another one of Living Fort Wayne’s volunteers. If you’d like to learn more about opportunities to help out with our blog, send us an email at info@livingfortwayne.com or reach...

Our Top Posts from 2017

Fort Wayne in 2017 was full of intriguing stories from new dining options to familiar festivals to people who make you think, laugh or both. Living Fort Wayne set several new readership and social media records, which will go down as the social media hub’s most popular year to date. Take a look at our top posts LFW readers loved the most this year as we switch to my “imaginary radio DJ countdown voice!” Number 5 – 07 Pub A post shared by Living Fort Wayne (@livingfortwayne) on Jul 3, 2017 at 10:18am PDT Starting us off at number five – a ZIP code experiencing a renaissance in Fort Wayne is 46807 (or the ’07). Our popular “Food & Drink” writer Reneta Thurairatnam took a look at 07 Pub – your new favorite place to hang out. Have you been there yet to hang out? Number 4 – Abode A post shared by ASHLEY CLAUSS (@bluebird_photo) on Mar 31, 2017 at 1:45pm PDT Great new things in our area aren’t just within Fort Wayne’s city limits! Writer and photographer Ashley Clauss gave us an inside look at one of the area’s trendiest home decor boutiques. This boutique is located in – surprise – Leo-Cedarville!  Take a gander at Ashley’s aesthetically-pleasing writing and photography in our number four post of the year, Abode: A Trendy Home Boutique in Leo?! Number 3 – Umi Seafood and Sushi Fort Wayne   A post shared by Living Fort Wayne (@livingfortwayne) on Jan 4, 2017 at 8:30am PST We started off 2017 with a bang with Reneta’s hot scoop on Umi – a new sushi restaurant located in southwest Fort Wayne. That helped make January 2nd one of our most popular days ever and this post our third most popular post of the year! Number 2 – Pumpkin Patches and More Fall Fun A post shared by Living Fort Wayne (@livingfortwayne) on Sep 24, 2016 at 12:13pm PDT Each year our leadership team eagerly awaits our annual “pumpkin patch” readership bump. Or maybe it’s just me? This year was no different as pumpkin patches and fall fun ruled our autumn nights and finished number two for the year. Look for our 2018 edition in September. Number 1 – Just Cream Ice Cream Boutique It may be freezing cold in Fort Wayne to close out 2017, but our hottest post of the year is all about ice cream. Just Cream is an ice cream boutique on the north side of the city located on Dupont Road. This piece was authored (once again) by Reneta, our venerable “Food & Drink” writer. Fort Wayne folks really love their ice cream! Top Posts –...
